Protein Powder vs. Homemade Shakes

Just looking for personal experiences. Taste is irrelevant to me, as I am a very bland person, haha. I am more concerned with cost and nutritional value.
I can make one shake at home for around one or two dollars, which is about the cost of the lower end bulk protein powder which would be my alternative.
Thank you very much.
