I don't have the wrist flexibility and it feels awkward as f****.

That is heresy...
There's always hack squats or the cross over arms or strap lift front squat variation or machine front squats0 -
Can you hold the bar like this instead?

I don't like cross over grip either...I'm old fashion. I like the missionary position and back squats.0
-
Remember, you don't have to actually *grip* the bar. I'll start with three fingers under it, and end with just two. Also, practice. I think wrist flexibility is something that can be improved fairly quickly with repeated stretching.0

I do them sometimes, but don't really care for them. For additional leg/glute work I do curtsy squats and/or glute bridges0

Absolutely hate them. That's why I do them often. If I hate it or dread it I know that's what I should be working on.0 -
I have no choice but to do them now. Restrengthening my left knee due to quadriceps tendonitis and being an idiot last year. When I did them heavy I would use straps, bit since I'm using a light weight I just let them hang on my shoulder (I don't even hold the bar with my hands). Hopefully I'll be able to back squat soon this year.0

you'll get better, just keep up with mobility work.0

Overhead squats are worse0

That trick above is a huge help. I struggle with them, and at risk of getting serious special snowflake accusations, I've become convinced that my forearms are either just too long, I have serious mobility problems, or both. I'm more concerned about the clean position itself as I enjoy that power cleans but cannot nail the position.0 -
I broke me neck in a motorcycle crash in 07, have the scar to prove it So front squats are the only squats I'm doing, lol.... One mans burden is another mans blessing0

Have you tried a wider grip? Its definitely possible to have forearms that are too long for it. I thought mine were but I widened my grip as far as I could and it helped me get the bar into the rack position on cleans without a problem.0
