Bloating!

It happens to me after I eat anything and for the rest of the day and night, I have this *big* pouch from bloating. It gets even worse when I'm PMS-ing, during which my entire body (legs, face, *kitten*) will feel huge. My frame is small so it looks pretty out of place.

Included in the link below is a photo of myself. It's old (almost 3 years ago this was taken) but I am about the same size today give or take a few pounds (I weigh 103/104 at 5' 3"), although now I am working out every day and trying to build muscle. Regardless of that, the bloating on me these days is still just as obvious as it was back then.

What are your tricks to prevent or stop bloating, maybe even just lessen it? I already drink plenty of water, for the record.

Hope you all have a very good day!

Unfortuntely your picture is of such poor quality and composition, that there is nothing to see that would allow any kind of opinion. Often bloating occurs when people either are sensitive/allergic to certain foods and don't digest correctly and the food goes through a process of putrefaction instead of digestion. This can also happen when certain nutritional elements are way off and happens especially if people eat too much processed food. I would make sure that my macros ( especially fiber and fat ) are ok, drink enough liquids to see if that makes a difference.

ETA: I also wonder, if you are maybe not as bloated as you think and you are just overly sensitive, because you are underweight ( normal weight for someone 5'3" is anywhere from 111 to 147 pounds, depending on bone structure ) , which again makes me wonder about the kind of relationship you have with food and your body.

I used to deal with bloating on a daily basis, my issue was that I wasn't getting enough fiber and fat in my diet. I don't know what you diet looks like so I'm just throwing that out there. I find that peppermint tea does help with bloating, maybe give that a try?

Peppermint tea is something I've never tried but have always wanted to. I most certainly will try it. Thank you :)
  • I need help with this also. I feel awful around that time of the month. What can I do to help? I try to eat the right foods but nothing seems to help. Any advice?

It was taken with my broken iPod touch in poor lighting; I'm a student, not a photographer. The general gist to be picke dup from that photo is my large tummy. Surely that is visible enough even with a poor quality photo?
I am today actually beginning to decrease the amount of gluten in my diet to see if it makes a difference. I try to eat enough fiber, but I probably don't get as much as I should. Would a fiber capsule help supplement this? I have also read that sometimes, increased fiber can cause bloating.
I drink about 8-10 glasses of water a day. Should I be drinking more?

    Thanks for your input!

are u eating a lot of veg? Are u gassy constipated or "backed up"? I dont see much body fat on you. Try eating super good and weight/strength/resistence training to turn fat to muscle :)

Other than that I dont know, ask a doctor!

There is no body fat, because the OP is anywhere from moderate to severly underweight, depending on her bone structure

I do have body fat. I am moderately underweight and I have been my entire life. You can thank the genetics from my mother, who is 4' 10" and has been extremely small her entire life, but healthy. I like her have a very small bone structure (ie very narrow hips) so this is just how I'm built.

Also since u are so tiny, yoga and better posture may make a world of difference :)

    Good luck!

I try to eat as well as I can. Being a college student, it can be kind of difficult for me. At home I eat well because my parents buy very nutritious and organic food, as they did for my entire life.
I do weight training every day! I'm starting to see some results in my arms, and I feel very happy about it. I totally love going to the gym.
I did yoga for about 6 years and I agree, it makes a big difference! I would start doing it again but the classes at my gym are filled, so I'm going to start doing it in my room. This was all really good advice without judgmental, so I thank you very much for that :)

I get bloated a lot! But I'm very overweight..

I've been trying all sorts to fix it, pro-biotics, peppermint oil, etc etc,. even eating a lot healthier isn't making a difference really.

I'd try eliminating food with gluten for starters, see how you get on, then try dairy.

If you are planning on going to the doctor then get tested before changing your diet as it could hide any issues if you are trying to eliminate things before you are tested.

What kind of food do you eat?

I get bloating too, and I look like I am pregnant - Feels like a big horrible knot in your stomach!!!

Probotics are very good - Do you take those?

Try logging your food and working out when the bloating arising - Ie It happens to me when I eat lots of sugary cereals/Bread. I know these foods can bloat out my stomach so I try to avoid them when I need too.

    You getting enough fibre?

    Try green tea /peppermint?

    Drink lots of water?

    All these things should help

Bananas are supposed to be good too for bloating - Google which foods are good!

My daughter was 5'3" and 106 in High School. She was naturally thin, but still very healthy and had some muscle. Her tummy however was very small, so anytime she ate, she got a 'food baby' as she would call it. When you are that small in the stomach, anything you put in your stomach will show, until it is digested.

How many calories are you eating per day? It concerns me a bit that you are 'naturally' this thin, yet are signed up on a fitness site. I understand that not everyone on here is trying to lose weight, as some are trying to maintain weight already lost, or to gain muscle if they are underweight. I am curious as to what your goals are here?
