Diet and fitness going well.. but sleeping badly and moody.

Have been on a healthy diet(1400cal) for three weeks now where I have also cut out sugar and alcohol to a huge extent and as good as cut out all processed foods, I also started fitness training again.
In many ways I already feel good, blood pressure back to perfect and weight slowly coming off, and my body shape improving.
Only thing is that I am not sleeping well, and my mood is not to good much of the time.

How long ago did you start? Are you eating back exercise calories?
1400 is really on the low side for a man, I'd determine your BMR and make sure you're always eating above that. Good luck!0 -
Uh... for someone who has 14 lbs to lose thats a really hefty calorie deficit.
Have you considered upping your intake to, say, 1800? Still in a deficit just not as extreme? Or perhaps making sure you are getting enough protein and fats?
Very low calorie diets in men for extended periods of time can wreak havoc on your hormones, cause low Testosterone, etc.
Also, check your micro nutrients and make sure you don't have any deficiencies.0 -

I wouldn't be able to sleep either if I ate that little. I'd be starving all the time.
I just can't imagine you should be eating that few of calories especially now that you are exercising.0 -
1400 calories seems really low for you. I'm a 5'5, 135lb, 30 year old woman with a deskjob and my goal is around 1400 (not including exercise, which I do about 4 times a week).0

You need to be eating a whole lot more than that. No wonder you are having sleep and mood problems, you've seriously messed with your hormones.
Here, read this, or any of the sticky posts at the top of the forums:

I also just wanted to point out so that OP doesn't feel "silly" or anything for coming up with that number.
I'm assuming you put your information into MFP and selected "lose 2 pounds per week" and thats the number it gave you? Then that calorie goal is correct.
What needs to be mentioned is that unless you are morbidly obese losing 2 pounds per week is not feasible or healthy. For someone with only 14lbs to lose i would suggest setting your goal to .5 per week or 1lb per week max. You simply don't have enough fat to have such an extremely high deficit!0 -
I am only 5,7", My Body fat is about 24%, I do not look that lardy, but I am over my normal happy weight from what I was. I think you guys have access to my diary, and to be honest i think I have been quite honest and logged everything, maybe portion sizes are slightly out here and there, but not by much.
I cannot say I have had that real hunger feeling, but I do have a similar feeling like when I packed up the *kitten* 8 years ago, like an addiction craving, I thought it could well be the sugar or the booze(which I miss)
I am not trying to remove weight fast, and if I intially put weight on through muscle at first that will also be fine. I am having to go as low as 1400/1500 or the weight just would not budge.0 -
I have stated watchin my cal intake about three weeks now(roughly).. and my weight was then 176lb there abouts, too much for my height, I feel content and good around the 165lb area0

I have to agree that 1400 is too low - I lost 28lbs on that and I'm 5'2 female! I was only gently exercising too.
As for sleep, I've had 30+yrs of poop sleep but pretty much cured a few wks ago having read about taking 500mg of magnesium in a chelated form (orotate or citrate for example) in evening. I now sleep much more deeply, can't believe I'd never come across the cure sooner.
However, you are probably being woken up by hunger/drop in blood sugar I'm afraid, even if you don't know it.0 -

You can't sustain 1400/1500. Simple fact.
That's much too aggressive.
We've all told you the same thing. If you choose to ignore us, it's only you who suffers.0 -

"Ignore us"
Sorry??
I have only just posted the OP about an hour ago, I am not ignoring anyone, just trying to get as much information as possible while giving as much as is asked off me back in order to then form an opinion of what I might or might not being doing wrong.
Thank you0 -

To be fair OP I think this is what is cmriverside referred to which you posted after several had suggested it was too low a cal intake.0 -

Exactly. I've already posted the link above. Several people have stated 1400/1500 is too low.
Good luck, OP.0
