Eating healthy, affecting mood?

I've been extra irritable lately with the people I love. I've heard that healthier eating HELPS improve moods... but does anyone else get irritable when they crave the junk food, but make the healthy choice?

I'm hoping it's not the case for me... maybe it's the snowy weather too. But something's gotta give before I lose my relationships!

    There's many if's, and's & but's...

    Some keys:

Low/no carb diets make people irritable.

There's a sense of satisfaction, which boosts people's moods to moderate eating, but eating 'too' little will make a person mad. Are you always hungry?

There maybe an emotional attachment to junk food. There are times you should cave and allow small portions of the food you want...the goal is to live healthily, not diet to only binge when goal weight is reached...which will add on the lbs, again!

Snowy weather...are you inactive nowadays?! I feel seriously insane/miserable when I don't workout! Get that body movin!

Whatever it is, good luck on figuring it out! =)

I find that eating Primal/Paleo (low carb/high fat/moderate protein) keeps me so much more satisfied and craving less. I still count calories but am not always starving. If I find myself hungry I have some lunchmeat or, a hardboiled egg. Good luck!

Perhaps you're hangry? What's your calorie goal at? Are you getting a balanced diet (good amount of protein, carbs, fat) I find myself lethargic if I don't get enough. :)

How long have you been doing this particular diet shift? Going cold turkey on junk food (or even cutting calories a bunch) can really make you irritable for the first couple of weeks. As will the first couple of weeks of an exercise program, if you're starting from scratch.

I've been going at this for 3 weeks and getting the weightloss results I've been looking for! (I've been on and off for the last few years)... I have my calories set to TDEE-20% 1785 - but usually do around 1600. I'm usually a little over on my macros, but struggle to get 1/2 my protein, not really hungry often. I work out at least 3 times a week. I also drink 6-9 cups of water a day. and drink caffeine as limited as I can.

I am diabetic, and know I get irritable when my blood sugar is low, but this is not blood sugar related.

My best friend and I are somewhat on the rocks, because i'm always taking things personally, and snapping at her. Now I'm noticing that I am snapping at my boyfriend.

This weekend, I did give in to one of my cravings. Saturday I was just at my calorie goals, and Sunday, I was over. I'm in a little bit of a better mood.

I haven't given up everything bad. I still eat chipotle and hot head on a weekly basis.. just cut back on the rice, and do it on a gym day.

All I know is that when I tried to go low carb, but even after a month when everyone said the cravings would go away, I would have hurt someone for a bag of pita chips.

So I bagged that and moved to MFP and have been much happier.
