5:2 Diet

Has anyone heard of the 5:2 diet? If so, have you tried it? If so, did it work? Is it bad to effectively starve yourself for 2 days a week? Any advice would be great! Thanks in advance..... ????

I did 16:8 and I didn't like it. I am not a fan of fasting. Below is a group you might enjoy. In the end, its not more effective for weight loss or fat loss. It's what works with your lifestyle. I also can't workout fasted or my performance struggles.

I have messed around with 5:2 but ended up going with 16:8. Like someone previously mentioned, it depends on the person. I've had great results on the diet and have been doing it for several years now. I don't even see it as a diet anymore, it has become more like a habit. Skipping morning meal and late night meals means I only have 2-3 meals (8 hour window) to pack in 2,300 calories, so it's really difficult to overeat even if you cheat with hamburgers or pizzas here and there. I know some people suffer of headaches and hunger while fasting, but that went away for me after a couple of meals. Now I don't even think about food anymore during the fasting window.

    Hi,
I lost 40 lbs over 5 months doing the fast diet. I've fallen off the wagon the past couple of months but am determined to get back on it so will start the 5:2 again this week.
It's not everyone's cuppa tea but it definitely worked for me!

I like intermittent fasting. Having a shorter feeding window (eg 8 hours) a day suits me. I've tried 5:2 on and off and although I like the idea, I haven't found that it suits me as well. I tend to feel tired and lethargic on the day after fasting, which interferes with my exercise. Try it though, and see if it works for you.

In addition to the group linked above, this one is about intermittent fasting in general: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/66-intermittent-fasting

I follow this way of eating and have found it really good both when losing weight and also for maintaining (I just fast once a week now).

You will find loads other people doing it in the two 5:2 groups on here:
