So Hi everyone I'm new to this so please be nice. Anyways I'm a bit in a slump I've looked around on the internet to see how much i should be eating and I keep getting about 2,190. I'm not fat or anything but I do have this stubborn belly fat that just doesn't want to die. Is 2,190 too much, is that why I can't lose the last fat I have? Or should I eat more? BY they way I'm a male and im 21 years old and I weigh 117 pounds now here comes the big thing I'm only 5ft tall so that might be throwing everything off. (Long story short since the age of 3 I've taken strong medicine so it stunted my growth). Anyways I do want to gain weight but I don't want to get fat I want to get toned. So what do I do? Im doing p90x by the way.

Try the calculator here: http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/
I'd suggest the best way to gain muscle and lose fat would be to eat just below and/or up to your TDEE and get some cardio exercise regularly. Make sure you're eating healthy most of the time, getting enough water, etc.
Belly fat is stubborn. It just doesn't know when to take a hike. Best luck to you!0 -
Some medications can cause you to keep/put on a bit of extra fat. Have you checked with your doctor about whether your meds do that, and/or what your doctor suggests about dieting and fitness?0

Any time there's some unique situation like the medicine you mention, I think it's best to advise talking to your doctor. With that said, assuming that doesn't create a unique situation, let's run the numbers.
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
Your BMR is about 1,414. That's the calories you burn being alive. Assume a sedentary output (add exercise to that) so multiply by 1.2 for 1,696 calories.
You're kind of dealing with what I'm dealing with. I want to "gain" too, but I also have belly fat. From what I've learned here, it's very hard to address both at the same time. If you want to get rid of the fat, you have to be in a calorie deficit. So burn more than you are taking in. I am not familiar with P90X, so you'll have to come up with a number for what you think you're burning doing that. Add that to the 1,696 to figure out what you're burning total. Come in under that and you should lose weight. A lot of people shoot for a pound a week. A pound is about 3,500 calories. Divide that by seven days in a week and you get 500. So 1,696, plus exercise calories, minus 500 will lose you a pound a week.
I just asked about the "lose fat and gain muscle" thing today and got some awesome info. Might check out this thread.

If you put your info into MFP and set a goal of losing a pound a week, it should set a very similar (in my experience, exactly the same) calorie goal.
Good luck with it!0 -
