Water-induced whoosh? Or..not?

Hi all, I have a question. I recently (like this week) became obsessed with drinking water. My weight loss had been clicking along pretty steady the first 40 lbs, but then it kindof died down, which didn't bother me too much. I hear it's perfectly normal. Anyway, after reading here that I should set mini "fitness/health" goals to help while away the time while weight loss seems to creep, I decided to up my water intake and slow the diet soda intake. I always logged my soda intake anyway, so it wasn't like I was changing cals up or anything. I ONLY started drinking tons of water and went down to 1 can of diet soda/day (instead of like...5). In 3 days I have lost at least 3 pounds. (What?!) everything else the same- just increasing water all over the place. Tmi, but my movements, which were always sluggish, have sped up some. My tinkle output has remained about the same- a little more than usual but not a huge increase.
What is going on here?? Is this "water weight" I'm losing? At this stage of the game- after 40 lbs down- I had not anticipated this sudden drop in water weight. Will I wake up and have gained the pounds back? Is my body "resetting," (which i don't really understand)?
I'm not complaining, just wondering what others might think and wondering if they have experienced something like this? Also, resetting- i can't seem to find much on it that makes sense on the web. It's like this amorphous concept that has no concrete signs/symptoms- it's just what ppl say to reassure others when weight loss halts for longer than one anticipates. And water doesn't seem to have anything to do with resetting, as far as I have seen...Any discussion about these phenomena would help me to become less ignorant.
TIA and you guys are awesome!

When you cut out the diet soda, you also cut out a decent bit of sodium. Add in increased water intake, and I wouldn't be at all surprised that it's all (or mostly) just water you're not retaining anymore.0
