Carbs?

Should I also be watching my carb intake? I have been told by friends and family that I rarely should be eating carbs. Help!

    1.) what are your goals

    2.) are carbs making you go over your calorie limit?
  • Your family is wrong, eat all the carbs you want as long as you're hitting your macros for the day. You still can lose weight.

    carbs = energy = life
  • Carbs are not evil but they should not be your only source of Cals either.

    It's hard to give any advice without knowing what your goals are, and what your current calorie, carb, fat, and protein goals are set at.

    My goal is to lose weight. I need to lose about 100 pounds. I've already lost about 20 pounds.

    The simple answer is yes, you should be watching your carb intake as well as your other macros.

    Watch your calories, carbs, protein, and fats. I also watch my sodium since I have issues with my heart.

    But when I say "watch", I don't mean make it such a low number of carbs per day that you end up going bat **** crazy and fall off the wagon and put on all the weight you lost plus 20%. No no no no, that's just stupid.

    I eat anywhere from 150 - 200 grams of carbs per day. Some days a tad more, and some days a bit less, but that's my average. And I think my ticker shows the results of those carbs.

    It sounds like maybe your family is still stuck in the Atkins-type mindset, where carbs are the devil. Ignore that. However, yes, you should be watching all of your macros. You need to figure out what you should set them to and once you've done that, you can try to hit that goal every day. Just depends on exactly what you want to do with your body. But ignore all of that "don't eat carbs" claptrap.

    depends on what your diet plan is...do whatever works for you!
    i personally have been keeping my carbs under 30 grams every day for over a year (high fat, ketogenic diet) and have dropped 5 clothes sizes. but i have friends that followed different diets and ate mostly carbs and have lost weight too.

    Just keep doing what your doing until it stops working. Then start worrying about carbs etc.

    If you were eating keto-style, then yes. But it's not a requirement. Personally, I try to keep my net carbs under 30 and my fat intake over 100. I feel better eating this way and I've lost over 30 lbs since I started eating this way.

    You will get all sorts of opinions on this kind of thing. I suggest doing research, weighing the pros and cons and go from there.

    Some people swear by macros, others by calories, still others by carbs etc. Funny thing is we all have varied ages, body types and metabolism along with many other considerations. What works for you? We've cut down on carbs but for us the real key has been moderation - and not making more than our individual servings. No temptation to eat more because it is gone . . . IF either of us are looking for 'more' it is generally at supper time and we have either fruit slices or yogurt as a finish note - either are good choices that allow us 'more' without having to think it is 'bad' or a failure for us to be successful in our healthy eating.
