His wife pissed me off also for not helping him control his eating habit.. Instead she kept buying and stuffing food down his face...

I'm not blaming her 100% but she also had a part in Ricki gaining more and more weight as the show progressed...

The "I don't care." she said as she looked to her phone when the doctor asked her if she was willing to stop feeding him was what ended it all. That is where there was no hope left for him. The only person who "loved" him stopped caring.

This is such a sad story. Seeing as how he couldn't get out of bed, how did he get pills in the first place? If she saw him taking something, she could have easily stepped in and stopped it.

I guess it was those anti-depressants that the doctor told him not to take. But you're right, he must have gotten them from his wife.

I wonder if any kind of investigation was done or if, due to his health, they didn't "care". Her attitude was horrible. She wasn't fully to blame for his obesity, it sounded like it was a problem before they were married, but she clearly enabled him. News flash- he can barely move so even if he asks you for a certain kind of food, he can't make you prepare it or buy it for him! This makes me really mad.

I watched this on telly. It beggars belief how this situation happened. The wife could have done a lot more but on a day to day basis it must have caused friction not to give in to his crazy food demands. He was totally to blame. I didnt have as much sympathy for him as other people - for instance, people in Africa who die from malnutrition from not having ANY food available.

The lady doctor angered me stating that obesity is a 'disease'. Excuse me. When did 'lack of willpower' become a disease? This guy constantly moaned about the fact that he couldnt have a gastric bypass because he couldnt get under the weight required. The amount of food he must have continued to eat must have been monstrous. There comes a point where feeling sorry for yourself when it was yourself who got you into this mess in the first place becomes tiresome.
