Lost 5% Body Fat in a Week... two different scales?

Hey guys! I want to start off by saying I know the only accurate way to measure body fat percentage is with water displacement.

That said, maybe someone can explain this to me.

I weighed myself at the gym last week and was 133 lbs and 24.8% body fat (yay!)

I just bought a brand new scale that got great reviews (an Escali). Today, exactly 7 days later, I weigh 130.8 lbs and 17.7% body fat.

The lbs I understand fluctuate on how much water you're storing, but what is with that? I know I didn't lose 5% body fat in a week (even though I am doing a rigorous weight training/cardio program).

I know scales are pretty inaccurate, but my question really is, which number should I believe? Is it even possible to lose so much so quickly?

Also, both times I redid it several times to try to get the most accurate number.

Thanks!

The body fat on biometric scales is notoriously in accurate it will read water as body fat so if you had a full bladder or fluid in your stomach that will come up as fat. The best way as to get accurate readings is to do the same as you need to do to get consistent weights. Do it first thing in the morning as you get up. At the same time the same place and wearing the same things

Yesterday I went to the doctor, where I weighed in at 237.8 lbs. Now, this was at noon, and I had already eaten breakfast and I was halfway through a large bottle of Fiji water.

Today I weighed myself right after going to the bathroom, first thing in the morning, completely naked (lol....this is how I do it!). My scale said 234.6 lbs.

Of course I didn't lose 3 lbs in one day, but I did weigh myself at different times, one with clothes, one without, etc. So it sounds like something similar may have happened with you.

If you weigh yourself in the same conditions and you consistently see the scale move (as well as your measurements!), then you're losing body fat. One scale might be higher than the other, but you're still going down in size and that's what really matters, right?
