My moment of ridiculousness

So, I am watching a 90's cartoon on Nick with my son Hey Arnold! One of my favorites as a young kid :-) This episode was about how one of the boys (his name is Harold) was being picked on for being fat. Arnold being the problem solver that he is decides that he wants to help Harold after he gets back from a 'weight loss cruise' and gained almost 100lbs. He works out with this boy at night and helps him make better eating choices. Towards the end of the episode Harold is fixing to come out of his house in the daylight for the first time in weeks (as all the mean *kitten* kids sit outside and wait to see how fat he has gotten since they last saw him) and Harold turns to Arnold and says "But Arnold, what if everyone still thinks I'm fat?" And Arnold tells him "Harold, Do YOU think your fat?" I lost it. I started crying and just couldn't stop. Stupid hormones................that is all.

the 90's cartoons were the best! You don't see that type of stuff on television these day. I don't remember that episode, but I probably would of cried too. Thanks for sharing it

Well, in a way, I see the point of that statement. Once I was 266 lbs. I'm down to 226 now. The one thing I can definitely say is that I'm not as fat as I used to be. But, I still look down over my boobs, I still see some of my belly (but not as much!), and I have rolls of skin now (not fat). Do I think I'm fat? Honestly, I have to say yes.

Then again THIS fat girl is running about 4 miles in an hour. THIS fat girl can do an hour of COMBAT or TURBOFIRE workouts and love doing it. THIS fat girl is up to eating at least 3 cups of veggies a day. THIS fat girl is healthy for once. Not perfect but healthy.

If there were a standard vision of what not fat is that question would be easy to answer. Am I better than I was. Oh yeah. You are what you see yourself as. Me? I earned the title Awesome Fat Girl.

However you see yourself, you make that vision positive or negative. What will you do w/ that ability?

I tried to get my kids to watch all the awesome 90s cartoons I loved. They think it's all boring, with the exception of the magic school bus.

I should go look for some captain planet!
  • Captain Planet! I forgot that one! Well, at least magic school bus is educational. Did you try reading rainbow?

    I did! "It's BORING"

Come to think of it they do like rugrats, sailor moon and the power puff girls so I guess they like some of it.

My husband showed my 6 year old ren and stimpy, though. She can't get enough of it. Six year olds are so obnoxious.

ETA: I found a whole youtube channel dedicated to full episodes of captain planet! Subscribed!
  • I WAS sailor moon for a long while. Lol. Ren and stimpy....I watched this as an adult and finally understood all the jokes. If there had been a shot in hell of me understanding them back then I should not have been allowed to even look in the direction of the TV! Lol
