Cautionary tales: how do to everything wrong on race day

This story has an uplifting ending, and is really about finishing when things have, quite literally, gone to poop.

However, it could all have been avoided.
1) Don't try any thing new on race day
2) DON'T TRY ANYTHING NEW ON RACE DAY
3) Especially don't drink pickle juice while running. Seriously.
4) Not pooping while running doesn't mean giving up fatty/greasy/caffeinated/high fiber foods forever, just avoid those the day before a long run.
5) Get shorts with built-in underwear. They prevent chafing. I can't imagine how uncomfortable it would be to run 26.2 miles in some Victoria Secret BS, poop problems or not.

Pickle juice is delicious. But anyone who has ever had it before should know better than to drink it without a bathroom around. Sheesh.0

I would have thought this is a no-brainer as well. Like stopping at mile 15 for some sauerkraut.0 -
That was awesome.
I also cannot fathom running in Victoria Secret or anything other than the built in shorts. But then again I tend to chafe.
I'm also a rule follower. I could never bring myself to break the cardinal rule of nothing new on race day0 -
I will certainly avoid pickle juice and I will not wear my Victoria Secret underwear...just in case I do poop.0
