If you're getting your sugar from fruits and veggies, don't worry about going over -- these sugars come with nutrients and fiber.
If you're getting it from processed stuff, soda, sweeteners, etc, then worry. Limit this stuff as much as possible.0 -
Oh cool, thanks, I go over with things like raisens and apples, thats put my mind at rest, I was wondering how I was going to work it all out lol

I've had the same problem, but most of my sugars were coming from fruits, yogurts and oatmeal. It wasn't that much over, but I can tell the difference in how I feel if I get sugars from those things or from processed foods. Keep an eye on it, but as the other person said, if its from fruits and veggies, I wouldn't worry too much about it.0

Most of the yogurts are overloaded with sugar. Your best option is to go with plain yogurt and add a little fresh fruit.............
And yes sugar from fruit does matter. Your body handles sugar, as sugar, as sugar.
Your best bet is to load up on veggies, but you said you were looking for high calorie, low sugar foods. That would be protein. meat and eggs...................0 -

Sugar from fruit does matter....but no, your body does not handle natural sugar the way it handles refined sugar or HFCS...so going over on apple slices is much better than going over on donuts. I say, don't worry too much. I go over from sugar from fruit all the time....not going to stop me from eating fruit.0 -
I agree that sugar from fruit shouldn't be worried about as long as you're not diabetic and you're eating reasonable portions (2-3 servings a day). If you're still interested in low-sugar higher calorie foods, here are some ideas:
meat, beans, nuts/seeds (good fats!), peanut butter (natural pb without added sugar), hummus and olive oil.0 -
I stopped tracking sugar for this very reason. My daily allowance is 27g, and an apple has 17. I started tracking fiber instead. As long as you aren't eating a bunch of refined sugars, don't worry about it.0

Try brown rice...pretty good calorie count but low, low glycemic index. Make sure not to overcook it either...
I'm losing but my mom is trying to gain 12 so I know....0 -

Once the fiber is separated from the sugar when digestion is occurring the sugar spike is the same for eating fruit as it is if you eat a candy bar..............
Therefore, sugar is sugar is sugar.
Someone the other day wrote a GREAT post in the HFCS thread that echoes my sentiments exactly about sugar.
It is like my doctor told me, Fruit should NOT be a staple in your eating plan, it should be a "TREAT"...............such as a dessert.0 -

Well the Canada Food Guide, and the Food Pyramid, suggest 2 - 4 servings of fruit a day....Strange how they don't reccomend 2 - 4 chocolate bars a day...0 -

It is not just diabetics that need to look at how much fruit you eat..............
Anyone with cholesterol or triglyceride issues should be severely limiting fruit intake also.
The whole thought to limit fats is contrary to the truth. That is why I no longer go with Conventional Wisdom thinking.
It takes eating fat to burn fat...............
Eat cholesterol containing foods to lower cholesterol, because it is less that your body has to make
High Triglyceride and cholesterol levels are not caused from eating too saturated fat, it actually comes from not eating enough.......0 -

You can believe in your government or the government in the United States, however I DON'T and I never will again. The USDA Food Pyramid in the United States is a BIG FAT JOKE!!!!
As long as they can keep you hooked on sugar and grains (which turns to sugar) then the Big Pharma companies and the companies like Con Agra will keep you all addicted and getting sicker and sicker..............0 -
I found this quote from the World Heath Organization and I think I am going to make it part of my signature..............It is how I believe. If we were eating just all vegetables and some low-sweet fruits, and getting our sugars just from there, we would be way better off.0

I do believe in my government...although I'm from Canada not the States.
And whatever, I'm not going to argue about whether or not fruit is good for you....because it is 100% yes, good for you. If you want to eat it once a month as a treat...enjoy. But I'll continue to eat 4 a day...and it doesn't seem to hurt my weight loss at all, so I'm not worried about the extra sugar.0 -

Fruit is only GOOD for you in very LIMITED quantities...................There are no nutrients in fruit that we can't get from vegetables. We should have VEGETABLES as our staple, not fruit...............
Fructose is not vital to our nutiriton like most everyone likes to believe........ :flowerforyou:
Here are some of the NOT so healthy things about Consuming Fructose (and yes they are speaking of FRUIT).
Fructose is incorporated into triglycerides more readily than glucose (blood sugar); therefore, it has a greater propensity to increase serum triglycerides.
Fructose, also known as fruit sugar (levulose) is a simple sugar twice as sweet as sucrose (table sugar). But because it is mainly metabolized in the liver, fructose has a lower glycemic index.
However, consumption of high amounts of fructose can lower metabolic rate and cause de-novo lipogenesis (the conversion of sugar into fat) since the liver can only metabolize limited amounts of fructose. For this and many other reasons, and contrary to previous claims for its superiority over glucose (blood sugar), fructose does not play essential part in human nutrition.
Although naturally present in fruits, fructose is also available in the form of crystals as a table sugar substitute. It is also sold commercially as high-fructose corn syrup which can contain up to 55 percent sucrose.
However, fructose can have some toxic effects on our health, especially on cardiovascular and digestive systems, as well as on our metabolism.
Fructose, especially its excessive consumption, may increase:
the risk of abnormal blood clotting ailments and hypertension (high blood pressure)
the risk of type 2 diabetes
total blood cholesterol levels (it serves in part as the raw material for the synthesis of cholesterol within the body)
LDL-“bad” cholesterol levels, and
blood triglyceride levels, especially in diabetics (fructose has a greater propensity to increase serum triglycerides than glucose).
Excessive consumption of fructose may also cause:
fatigue, especially in persons who are fructose intolerant
insulin resistance, and
obesity (due to de-novo lipogenesis - the conversion of sugar into fat).
It is estimated that up to 33 percent of persons are unable to completely absorb fructose due to fructose intolerance (also known as dietary fructose intolerance (DFI) which may cause
flatulence (gas)
intestinal cramps (abdominal pain)
bloating, and
altered bowel habits (diarrhea).
Fructose may cause the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and may be an underlying cause of some cases of IBS due to fructose malabsorption.0 -

You don't know what the fruit sugar is doing to your blood pressure, your cholesterol, triglycerides, etc.
I always suggest to everyone to get blood work done prior to starting loosing weight, there are somethings that you can add to your eating that can be detrimental to your health when you think it is being "healthy".0 -
good morning....i am a newbee. ....All the fooooood info....lots of stuff i didnt realise......I have always thought frutose in foods made me a little bloated .....how very interesting......!0

You don't know what the fruit sugar is doing to your blood pressure, your cholesterol, triglycerides, etc..............Wow, that is really living healthy!!!
My blood pressure and cholestrol have both significantly improved over the past month...since I started eating healthy...which includes 3-4 fruit a day and 6-8 vegetables a day.
And this site is about positive support...not pushing your own beliefs over and over. I'm not forcing you to eat fruit y'know...so leave it alone. I'm not even saying your wrong, I'm just saying I'm not going to stop eating fruit. The end.
Have a nice day!0 -
thank you every one for all of your help xx0

This! ^^
For instance, an apple (1 cup, 110 grams) has 14 grams of sugar, with a glycemic load of 3.
A small piece Snickers bar (28 grams, 1 ounce) has about the same sugars 17 grams, with a glycemic load of 10.
So no... your body does react differently to different sugars.
And I'd much rather have a 4 oz apple than a single ounce of chocolate!
The apple has less sugar and a lower glycemic load, and will actually be filling and have nutrients like Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Calcium, Potassium etc... and Fiber.0 -
PS Anything from a "keto" recipe site or a "low-carb" recipe site is likely going to fit this bill.
You don't have to change your whole diet to pick and choose some lower sugar recipes from the low-carb options.
They are delicious and have virtually no carbs or sugar.0
