Shred With Weights by Jillian Michaels

I thought I'd post this for you Jillian Michaels fans out there.
I just received Shred with Weights by Jillian Michaels, which was released earlier this month. It's a kettlebell workout, but can be modified to use a single dumbbell. Unfortunately, Jillian does not give a recommendation for the weight of kettlebell to be used, but does push her adjustable kettlebell. She does suggest those using dumbbells use 3-8 lb weight.
The video consists of a tutorial and two different level workouts. I highly recommend using the tutorial if you haven't used kettlebells before, like me. It was very helpful to take the time to figure out the correct form for the movements before adding the cardio aspect.
I did the tutorial followed by Level 1 and it was HARD. My fitness level is intermediate, as I've been working out consistently for over a year now. It's been a long time since I've felt like passing out during a workout. I did stop to sit down during the workout, in the third circuit during a move called "Turkish Getups". Personally, I burned 199 calories in the 27 minutes of Level 1. I did not count my calories during the tutorial because it is slow-paced.
Overall, I believe this would be a very effective video, like the rest of hers are. It's a killer workout incorporating her famous circuits which include both strength and cardio.
As an FYI for you Jillian fans, her Six Week Six Pack DVD will be released November 30th.

I loved it too. I did buy the kettlebell as well. It is a very different workout. My form improves as I get more comfortable with the moves. I am also an intermediate or advanced exerciser and I thought it was challenging. This week, I did a half an hour of cardio before doing it because I am not certain of the calorie burn.
Worth the buy.... At Best buy, I got the kettlebell for 55.00 ... Well worth it.0 -
Thank you for the review! I actually ordered this video yesterday and looking forward to trying it out. I love her videos and have seen great results. This will be my first go with kettlebells. I bought a 10lb one last night, and hope that one isn't too heavy!0

I preordered this DVD from Amazon and am still waiting on it because something else on my order was out of stock. D'OH!
I just started working with KB's this past June and I love them. I usually average 300-325 cals burned in 30 minutes with my other KB DVDs - they are a killer addition to your regimen. I'm no expert but I can tell you I got myself a 5 lb. and a 10 lb. bell when I first started. Being that the 5 was pretty light and the 10 a little too much for some moves at first, I'd suggest an 8 lb. to start out with. Hope that helps
I've been looking forward to getting this vid and am glad it got a good review here. Thanks for sharing! :flowerforyou:0 -

Thank you for the weight suggestion! They were cheap enough at Walmart that I may just go ahead and pick up an 8 lb one.0 -
I believe I forgot to mention that I used a 10 lb. kettlebell that I bought at Walmart for $18.77. The DVD was $9.99 on Amazon; shipping was an additional $4.

I have this as well and did it on Monday evening. Man what a great workout. I don't have a kettlebell so I used a 5 lb dumbell. I know that if I had a heavier weight it would have kicked my *kitten* even more lol I do like it but I am not one for doing the same routine over and over but am going to look for a different weight before I try it again.0

My copy finally arrived last night! YAY! I did level 1 and it started out okay. I was working but kind of thinking, I've gotten all this down before, maybe I'll try level 2 after I cruise through this one. But by the end she had kicked my *kitten* pretty good!
I love this workout :bigsmile:0 -
Did any of you finish this workout? What were your results? I am a few days away from finishing my second round of the 30 Day Shred and am thinking of doing Shred with Weights next.0
