total calories under 1700

I wanted to know how likely is it for me to lose weight if I weight 360 and eat a calorie intake of 1700 calories. If i'm honest and actually eat that many calories how likely am I to lose weight? My weigh in is Wednesday. I lost weight (45 pounds since jan of 2013 but it took me a year and a month to lose that. I'm thinking that's way too long based on other stories here.

P.S. I am 6'2"

I've been on MFP for 14 mos and have lost 43 lbs. Your journey is your's , mine is mine, and the others all have their journey. Just something to think about.

That's actually very very low for a tall guy. You will drop weight like mad...maybe too fast. You may actually want to go a bit higher. Seriously!
  • I agree with megsmom2, 1700 is pretty low. Try playing around with you MFP goal setting (choosing how many lbs you want to lose in a week), and it'll tell you what your daily caloric intake should be. Good luck on your journey!

According to http://iifym.com/tdee-calculator/ your BMR is 2661. 1700 might be a little too low for you! What have you been doing to lose the weight you lost already? Slow weight loss is a good thing. I know it can be frustrating, but if you change it slowly, it is so much more likely to stay off. I don't know you or your metabolism, but it seems like 1700 is going to be stressful for you to eat at, and for your body, and that you're going to eventually want to eat more than that and will put weight back on again.

I wouldn't eat 1700 calories a day, personally. My limit is 2000 but I'm usually over at least 1800. And I'm 5'4" and female.

Yes, 1700 seems too low for you, especially right now. You can experiment with eating 2200 every day for a few weeks and see how that works. I would also make sure you are measuring/weighing your food so that you are being accurate.

Also, I would explore if you are eating for emotional reasons. If so, any dieting will be difficult until you find a way to cope with feelings other than by eating. Eating is a way for many people to soothe negative emotions. Finding new coping methods will help you succeed with weight loss.

    Good luck!

Thanks ya'll for the advice. I actually been eating between 1800 and 1600 for the last 4 days and it's been ok. I just drink plenty of water. I also eat small snack between meals. I will know Wednesday how well or bad I do. I also drink a whole glass of water during dinner and drink tea after each meal. I don't even feel like i'm neglecting myself. The water and tea helps a lot though. My wife (which I still can't find on MFP) has been doing about 1400 calories a day for about a month now and has had fabulous results.

A woman's caloric needs are much less than a man's.

To give you perspective though, I'm a 5'2 woman, 164 lbs and I eat 1770 calories. As a 6'2 male, you should be eating waaaaay more than I do.

Yep. Female, 5'7", around 163 lbs and I eat between 1600-1700 calories a day to lose 1 lb per week. You should definitely be eating more than me.

I'm 5'4 and my calorie intake is 1220, it has taken me eight months to lose 8lb!! Sooooooo slow. so surely we are all different and our bodies burn up the calories differently too.

Yeah, unfortunately your wife's caloric intake isn't going to have much bearing on yours.

To give you a comparison over here, my boyfriend is 6'1", weighs around 200 lbs, and burns around 3500 calories a day (he is fairly active).

Me, I'm 5'4", about 140, and yesterday was one of my highest burn days to date... at 2260.

Of course it's going to be different for you because you're a tall man and I'm a short woman. lol. But we started around the same weight. When I joined MFP in 2011 I weighed 368. I was eating 1800 - 1900 calories a day and losing 3-5 pounds a week. And I wasn't even exercising. I lost a total of 107 pounds. I have now gained back a lot due to pregnancy and getting off track though.

Really the best thing to do would be to ask your doctor what you should be eating to lose weight and what you could be eating to maintain your weight. Then adjust from there as needed.
