I walked a 5k recently and loved it. I've seen posts about starting couch to 5k. Is this a program i could follow? If so where can I find details?

You can also find the program designed for the treadmill. Good luck!
  • I started running with a couch to 5K and it worked well for me. The site I used has since been absorbed into another and requires a fee.

A free version can be found at http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx which is from the British National Health Service. Included are free podcasts that will talk you through each run with the all timings - you might need a high tolerance to an English accent though :-). My wife is using this at the moment and is progressing through the steps without trouble or injury.

Google will get you all kinds of results.

Plenty of free apps out there that work great too. I used c25kFREE by Zen Labs.

I've heard a lot of people having great success with couch25k. I wasn't one of them but took another route. Whatever you need to do to get you there just stick with it. You'll be glad you did.
