Sorry if I posted in the wrong section. I know running shoes are going to the best but can you use cross trainers as a replacement? Thanks in advance.

It depends, are you only going to be running a mile or two a couple times a week? Cross trainers are padded differently than running shoes, they're built for lateral movement. If you only plan on running a mile or two at a time and only want to run one or two times a week then you can use cross trainers. Howeever, if you're planning on running multiple times a week and/or increasing your mileage then I would strongly recommend that you invest in a good pair of runners. Overuse injuries can sideline you all together if you are running without properly fitted shoes. I personally have my cross trainers for my workouts in the gym like weight training, spinning, ellipticals etc. and then my runners that I ONLY wear when I'm running. I even go so far as to carry them with me and change my shoes to go running, then change out of them once I'm done cooling down. Hope this helps0

I'm only doing around 1.85 miles 3 times a week right now and I'm looking at going to 3 miles. I have running shoes already (not properly fitted but not cheap ones either) but I guess I can't kill 2 birds with 1 stone on this one. Thanks for the info!0 -
agreed with the reply above. if for short and rare runs, fine. if not, then get to a decent running shop, who will analyse your running style for free and sell you the right shoes0
