First, is it healthy? Is it high calorie cheese? I've always loved mozzarella cheese, can you recommend any healthy recipes with it?

Pretty much all cheese is high in calories, due to the relatively high fat content. But in and of itself it is not bad at all. If you fit it into a well rounded diet it can be a good way to get protein, fat, and calcium and you need.

I love it; and if you can fit in to your calories then go ahead and eat it.

I love making a stuffed "caprese salad". Essentially I take roma tomatoes and hollow them out. I take fresh mozzerella and cube it, then put that and some chopped fresh basil in the tomatoes. Then make a balsamic vinegar reduction (reduce until it coats the back of the spoon and is sweet and no longer bitter) and drizzle over the top.

    So good!

I just pulled some stats from a packaged mozzarella (others may vary):

    Nutrition
Typical Values 100g contains 30g contains
    Energy 1020kJ (245kcal) 310kJ (75kcal)
    Protein 19.0g 5.7g
    Carbohydrate 0.7g 0.2g
    Sugars 0.7g 0.2g
    Fat 18.5g 5.6g
    Saturates 12.2g 3.7g
    Fibre 0g 0g
    Salt 0.4g 0.1g

Sorry that the alignment doesn't quite work.

I still fit it into my dietary plan, by managing the portion I consume.
My favorite is chicken parmesan ... I bread and bake the chicken, then top with a little sauce, top with about 30g of cheese, and off I go!
  • Mozzarella...my favorite! It has about 20% fat, whereas other cheeses usually have about 38% fat. You can also get half fat or reduced fat mozzarella. I like it with sun dried tomatoes on a nice piece of bread, like garlic ciabatta or focaccia. *note to self..,buy mozzarella tomorrow*

I try to use 2% mozzarella it fits my calories a little better. They do make fat free.....but it doesn't melt or brown like "real" cheese.

For recipes - Italian (of course) I like using whole grain pastas, adding veggies to the sauce, and making my own pizza crust.

I like eating string cheese as a snack, good protein & the fat is filling. I typically pair it with a piece of fruit (for fiber).

That's pretty much exactly what I just had:

    It was delish and fulfilling.

I eat chees all the time - find a way to fit it in - If you use it for cooking once it's shredded you will find you don't use as much as you think. Also if you are using it for a recipe once you figure out the per serving calories it's not all that bad. If you are making something that uses a lot of cheese in the recipe you can cut it back a bit but if you keep it in mind when planning the rest of your day you should be fine.
