Squatting With My Back

UPDATE:
Practiced squatting with personal trainer today. Turns out I have a weak core, so I have to work on that.
Hold breath at top of squat and hold it throughout. At the top of the lift, squeeze glutes and exhale.0 -
OK there's not a lot of advice flowing on this thread so I'll chime in. Your form looks ok from what I can see on the vid (get yourself a decent cameraman next time though  ).
You are obviously concentrating on getting the form down before loading on the weight which is awesome! I would recommend box squats as the best place to start (most gym benches are a good height for this, just get one that is just below your knees). This will teach you the proper depth and help you dial in that technique.
As for the knees over toes issue, don't sweat it. Everyones body mechanics are different. As long as your form is good and your knees are tracking in line with your toes a bit of protrusion over the toe line is no issue. Check out this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBHc323QwFE
btw, Johnnie is a great resource and a great one to sub to!0 -
hey raman,
thanks for tuning in. yes, I practiced doing box squats with my trainer yesterday. we stacked these plastic things on top of one another, and we found the perfect distance where I could squat without butt wink. if i squatted any lower, there I would've started butt winking
my trainer said this is due to an extremely weak core and glutes, so lately, I've been doing exercises for both those body groups
he just sent me an article regarding training your core:

my trainer tells me to squat till i hit the box, then go back up. no sitting on the box like you see in some youtube videos. that puts all the strain on your back and it doesn't mirror a proper squat.0

That is correct. You are feeling for the depth, you should never rest on the bench. This will cause unnecessary loading on your spine and not help your technique improve.0
