not trusting scales

I'm 5ft 3.5 (the half an inch counts :P) & in a UK size 12/14 & I weigh anywhere between 170-175 depending on the day, usually towards the lower end although according to the scales I can be down to 161 some days, I know you can gain a few lbs from water weight but 9-14lbs difference seems far too much. I personally think that my weight seems high for my clothes size.. I've weighed a lot less & I've wore bigger clothes. it doesn't make much sense & I'm doubting the scales. does anyone else not trust their scales? or is able to provide some sort of explanation?

    No don't trust the scales!!

Take measurements or photos - Or just go by how you feel and how your clothes fit on you!

I am building muscle, so I AM NOT stepping on the scales : )

Sorry to burst your bubble but if you're eating at a calorie deficit you're not building muscle

I am around your height and at 167lbs I was wearing size 16 to 18 clothes so I don't think your clothing size is big for your height. If you previously fit in smaller clothes then your body composition must have changed. You will be storing fat in different places to where it used to be. Every time I've had a baby my body composition has completely changed and I have found that even when I start to slim down I can never fit in my old clothes because I've changed shape so much. As for the scales....I hate them lol. They do tell lies. For 2 weeks after Christmas I was maintaining my weight averaging between 1600-1700 with no exercise. I started exercising again and my weight has been yo-yoing ever since. The last 2 days I've net around 1400 calls after exercise and my scale says I've gained 2lbs and 1 1/2% body fat. I'm pretty sure I am getting smaller in places even though the scales are giving me hell and the tape measure isn't changing much either. I'm needing smaller clothes so hopefully I'm recomping :) Track and see if there is a downward trend over time.

don't be disheartened by the scales! my weight goes up and down several pounds one day to the next! i've learnt to pretty much use it as an average and focus more on measurements.
