High protein and low cal?

Hey all,

I've noticed my last few diary entries (food diary? lol) that I am good with staying under my calories but my protein is failing horribly lol. How do you get in your daily amount while staying under your calorie limit in terms of snacks and meals? I'm really not picky, just not a huge fish person!

Thanks for all of your help!

I eat things like yogurt, string cheese and protein bars (Luna) as snacks. Also, I make sure I have protein at every meal. For example, I'll go for a breakfast sandwich with egg whites and canadian bacon over a bowl of cereal for breakfast. Or throw some grilled chicken onto my salads. I regularly get 80-90 grams of protein per day, in about 1250 calories. It was tough at first but it just comes naturally after a while so keep at it!

What do you consider high protein? MFP's default protein intake is really low. I aim for at least 1g of protein per pound of lean body mass to aid in muscle preservation in a deficit which comes to around 100+ a day for me. I treat pretty much all my macros as minimums

Edit- sorry misread. Greek yogurt, chicken, pork, jerky, eggs, nuts, some legumes, quinoa, peanut butter are some of what I use to help

    Let me count the ways!

Protein shakes, eggs, chicken, turkey, ham, cottage cheese...

It took me a few weeks to build my macros up but I got there in the end and it's easier than you think! :)

If you open your diary you can get specific recommendations on what to change instead of generic "meat and eggs."
  • I am pretty sure my diary is open to all, or at least my friends anyways..I try to eat protein at every meal such as egg whites, chicken, string cheese, I just feel like that at the end of the day I could still fit in more.

It's not public, so the most I can say is "eat more things that are high in protein like meat, protein powder, eggs, and cottage cheese."
