How Do You Refresh?

Yesterday, I heard twice that I look worn out--I see it too, but had hoped others didn't notice.

Between work, family, friends, relationship and a community theater musical (rehearsals take up 15+ hours of my week), I'm totally worn out! I'm sleeping only about six hours a night and simply don't have the time to sleep more. I drink tons of water, limit my caffeine to 2 cups of coffee on most days, and I rarely drink.

I know a lot of people use exercise to boost their energy levels, but that's not how my body reacts. I'm one of those people who could work out for an hour and fall fast asleep. Plus, about 1/2 of my rehearsals are dance/choreography rehearsals, so it's not like I'm missing out on activity.

How do you refresh when more sleep isn't an option?? Help!!!

I hit f5 on the computer...

But seriously, make sure to take a good vitamin and eat a balanced meal. Do you find you're more tired after eating/doing an activity? Unfortunately you're body may need more sleep, maybe try and put in a micro nap during the day? Other than supplements I'm not exactly sure how you'd boost your energy.

I've found that even if I am doing things I LOVE doing, doing too much takes it toll. This weekend I had a truck load of things I wanted to accomplish but I too had a lot of people telling me I looked 'tired' lately so I went and watched tennis all weekend. Just sat there...watching and enjoying doing nothing. The first day was toughest because I kept thinking of all the things I could be doing, but by day two I was able to relax more. Actually napped a few hours too.

I dunno. For me I just need to be left alone and able to focus on simple things.

Last year about this time I took a few weeks off work and did yard work. I actually sat and hand pulled weeds one day, which was amazingly calming and relaxing.

    Everyone's mileage will vary.

Learn to say no and recognise when you need to be selfish and have some "me time".

    Edited for typo :)

Can you MAKE time? Set aside a day just for you. Or a day with just you and your SO or a friend...sleep late that day, eat nourishing meals, maybe do a little "spa day" for yourself and really just take the time to relax and reenergize?

How long until your community theater event is over? Maybe it could wait until then? I know how taxing those can be. I have considered doing it myself but could never commit to the grueling rehearsal hours.

    Good luck!!

This sounds a lot like me. I'm guessing you may be an extroverted-seeming introvert.

Thanks everyone...yeah, I wish my life had an F5 button!

@ZeroAccess, I do see an applied kinesologist who has me on well balanced supplements. I see her again this weekend, so I'll be sure to check with her, too.

The show is over at the end of March...I love doing theater (I've been working with this theater for 12+ years), but this time it's more exhausting than ever! While I love the cast, I'm looking forward to having my time back!

@Chaelaz, weeding a garden sounds so therapeutic right now. Partially because of the actual act of weeding, and partially because the warm sun on my skin sounds heavenly! :flowerforyou:

@pineapple_jojo and @seltzermint, you're both right, I need to MAKE time for myself. I'll have to look over my very booked schedule and see when I can take some time to just be me. Last night my rehearsal was canceled because of a snow storm and I reveled in the evening to myself. Unfortunately, I packed it with housework, since I can't get that done any other time.

I appreciate everyone's feedback--I think the main suggestion is to find some "me time"--I'll have to figure out how to get that done!

I think the key is to schedule it like you do anything else and not allow that time to get interrupted. I know how easy it is to fill down time with other responsibilities but you have to prioritize yourself. Even if you just block out an hour and say "I will not do anything from 5:30 - 6:30".

I listen to music, motivational speeches, or meditate for a few minutes.
