Speechless!

I joined this site a few days ago. I haven't actually logged my foods yet. I've pretty much just been logging my weight and reading and responding to some of these posts on here. Today, I decided to log my food, and holy crap, I did not realize until today how many calories I really have been consuming.
So far, I have lost about 13 pounds, and I still am going to try to lose sixty more. I don't even know how I have lost even 13 so far because I still have been eating way too many calories a day.
I started off by making more simple changes, like limiting to soda to about one soda, maybe a few times a week, and not putting any sugar in my coffee, and by using milk in my iced coffee instead of cream. Still use cream in hot coffee though, the caramel cream is too delicious to give up lol.
Even though I feel extremely discouraged after seeing this today... My goal is to TRY to start logging more consistently, that way, I hopefully, see more results...

It's great that you've started logging!
It can be really surprising to find out how many calories sneak into our daily diets, and being aware of eating too many calories is the only way to keep yourself from doing it again.
Great job and best of luck (and congrats on your 13 pounds lost!)0 -
It's eye-opening (and depressing!) isn't it! 13 lbs. is great so keep up what you are doing. Those types of changes are sustainable and that's how you will get the weight off AND keep it off.0

Are you weighing your food?
Because that's another shocker, rather than just guessing the amount.
Great start though..keep up the good work.

Thank you for the support. Its tough because I am a soda addict. I would drink easily five a day. Now, I will have one root beer or something with dinner, maybe a few times a week. Also, I used to get coffee with extra caramel, extra cream and extra sugar. Now I get a caramel coffee with extra milk and no sugar. Small changes... but wow, I am shocked to see how many calories I consumed today without soda OR a coffee made the way I used to drink it! No, I do not weigh my food...0

As you log, it becomes easier to judge your tradeoffs. Ask yourself "Is this really worth xxx calories, or would I rather have that much of something else?" Every little step helps.0

That's how it started for me too. I THOUGHT I was eating healthy. When I started to log and realized the true calorie count I was in shock. You will learn and it does get easier with time. You are off to a great start. Congratulations on the 13 pounds.0

I was surprised too! When I started there were my favorite restaurants I simply avoided, because I knew they were high calorie. Then I started venturing back and actually looked at the nutritional information for the menu. OMG! No wonder I got to where I was! There were days when I was consuming up to 2000 calories in a single meal! Ignorance is bliss, but it also is severely overweight, for me anyway
I no longer have that excuse, and neither do you. Best of luck with your new-found knowledge :flowerforyou:0 -
This is what got me started too. I came on here "just to see", when someone mentioned this site. I plugged in what I ate, what I was eating regularly during the week, and was surprised. What I was eating was not a lot of volume of food, but it was a lot of junk food and the calories rack up quickly that way. Now, I still allow myself to eat some junk, but I fit it into my allotted calories.0

the best tip i can think of for you is to log your food before you eat it... this way you can see if it will put you over in any of your micros, macros, or calories and rethink eating it if it will... if you eat and then log sometimes you go over without expecting to and that can be kind of discouraging0

Now I get a caramel coffee with extra milk and no sugar.
try ordering with skim milk instead of regular milk for less fat and calories every little bit helps!!0
