I don't get it: 40 lbs down

(don't be put off by the moderator title, I am just an MFP member like you all:flowerforyou: )

I know, you are thinking "Why isn't this in the Success threads?" Me too quite honestly.

Today I was logging my weight, which I only do monthly. When I saw I had hit 40 + pounds I thought WOOT!

When I saw my ticker, which said 3 lbs to go, I said :noway: huh? I sure as hell don't look like I only need to lose 3 pounds!!!:grumble:

Then I went to the mirror and started tearing apart my body. OH GOD, my stomach  and my legs, ok they are looking better but what is that? Cellulite still???? And this bump above my waist, ugh. Don't even get me started on my arms as you do NOT have all day.

NOW.......the very good news is thanks to some new friends here I have started to lift heavy things and set them down. That is helping me mentally, and of course will help physically in the future. I am patient, sheesh just look how long I have been here!!

My statement is that the people (women especially) who are truly happy with what they see in the mirror, lift weights. I am not talking about just the friends who have hit the best BF % and are in high gear, beast mode............no even those who still have weight to lose but with grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr lifting those bad boys feel much better about body image.

Are we ever truly happy with results?

Well good. then I am glad I started this thread!

I have become newly interested in weightlifting to change the shape of what is left.

Here's to sticking with it! :drinker:

I have lost about 30# since last August and I know I look different. I have compared the photos ;)
But I still can't get it out of my head how far i have yet to go, rather than focusing on my successes.

The WORST is the nagging feeling of where I would be if I started as I look today.

I have been sick, but I get it. I keep thinking if I just kept up with the gym 3 yrs ago, if I just............we only have today and please, tomorrow........so I couldn't make it to the gym tonight due to migraine but I am going to play with my weights and work on my planks and push ups.
  • I was once 137 lbs and I am 5'10". I looked sick, it was gross - I was soooooo skinny....but i still had cellulite.....just one of those things you'll never ever get rid of :-( and you have to learn to accept.

Anyway to answer your real question, just because you're working on your physical fitness does not mean you are working on your mental fitness. You probably still have that negative attitude from when you were still carrying around that 40lbs. Just because the weight comes off, doesn't mean the insecurity fades. Now that you have done work on your body to be physically healthy, start working on your mind to become psycologically healthy. Tough work - much harder than losing 40 lbs.

But you ARE starting as you look today! Every day is a new, fresh start. You can't undo the past, but you CAN be grateful to yourself that you didn't wait until today to start getting more fit. You now have a fitter body to work with! Awesome!
