Question about weight training

Hello everyone!

I have a question: In March I'm going to start going to the gym because my boyfriend was offered a discount through his work at a gym that includes full membership. The only issue is that we both want to go, but we don't really have enough money to pay both memberships. We were thinking in alternating months (because they offer that option - you only pay when you go), I go on one month and he goes during the other month. However, my question was, is this going to affect me at all in terms of losing what I work on for a month? How can I mantain? I want to start doing heavy lifting but I don't know if it's a good idea if I'm going to be going every other month. I do want to go, I was just wondering if there's anything I can do to not go back in progress while I'm not heavy lifting. Maybe dumbbell exercises? I don't have much equipment at home but I guess I can afford some dumbbells... Halp! Thanks in advance.

Can you afford a weighted bar? They come in weights up to 30.. I'm not sure that they are called but its like a dumbell without the bells on it? I think they are like 12,15,18, 25, etc

If you want consistent results and progress, you will want consistent access to the gym. If you have space where you live, look on Craigslist for used weights.
