Green tea, does it actually help?

I know studies have been done, but does it actually help to lose weight besides filling you up, substituting for other bevs, suppressing appetite?

I heard that you have have 40 cups a day for it to make a difference? Does it have to be a certain type of green tea? I think matcha was said to be the best, but I'm def not going to go buy it if I have to drink 40 cups of it lol

  • i'm not positive if it does help with weight loss but i drink 3 cups a day and it helps me feel fuller :)
  • Im close friends with a researcher who did his PhD in green tea (making him probably the most informed person around). He thinks not so much :)

Been a while since I looked at the research, but I seem to remember that 6-8 cups (3-4 cups double-brewed) of green tea a day (or the equivalent green tea extract pills) was more-or-less equivalent to cutting 100 calories. Kind of noise level, IMHO.

From a weight loss point of view as someone said noise, it does however have a multitude of other benefits. Its got so bad now i have even bought a glass teapot and get taster packs of tea from various places, so ex coffee snob is now a green tea snob :)

Maybe it's a placebo effect... I drink 2 cups in the afternoon for a small amount of caffeine, to keep me warm, get my water intake and for the antioxidants, if it helps me burn calories even better :)

Maybe............I know I drink green tea or Oolong Tea three times a day and it helps suppress my appetite. Everybody is different.
  • hmm, interesting! I could see this being a benefit for heavy latte cream drinks addicts, or those who drink excessive amounts of soda/juices, but I'll stick to my usual black coffee haha. I first saw it on the oprah show a while back and they called it some weird diet, resulting in 2 pounds loss of drinking green tea (But what people didn't know, was it replaced coffee with milk, drinks etc) And then I saw it again on oz

The only thing green tea does for me is suppress my appetite, make me feel fuller. But so does coffee, and I love the richness of it so much more.

    Thank you :)
