Hula Hooping

So, I use a hula hoop for exercise, as it burns calories and tones your core. I know that in order to actually work on your core, you need to tighten your abs while you hula hoop. My question is, if you're being lax and not tightening your abs, are you still burning calories because of the repetitive movement, even if you aren't toning?

Eve, you are burning calories sitting at your computer breathing, every second of your life you burn calories. So yes you are burning calories without tightening you core. When your heart rate goes up and your respiration increases, you burn more calories.
Are you getting a sweat on while hula hooping? Do you breath hard? Is your heart rate going up? Then you are burning MORE calories.
If you like Hula Hooping, try a Zumba, Cardio Kickboxing, or Body Pump Class. You will get the same toning affect, a lot more movement, burn more and see more results.
Add a jump rope in there too and you will really get a good burn!0
