Calorie Counts on Vending Machines

Leaving the grocery store last night, I walked passed the vending machines and had to stop and check it out. There was a large sign posted on it saying "Calories Counts." I had to look twice. Turns out it was saying to look at the calories before you purchase and sure enough beside each soda was the amount of calories in the beverage. I was impressed as it was the first time I had noticed anything like that because vending machines don't usually catch my attention.

I came home and did a little research. I was curious if this was done by the vending machine company or the soda company. Here's what I found out, from an article posted 12/28/13: "Requiring calorie information to be displayed on roughly 5 million vending machines nationwide will help consumers make healthier choices, says the Food and Drug Administration, which is expected to release final rules early next year."
