I am going to openly admit that the hardest time of the day for me is 10pm-4am. Even though I am sleeping, it is nothing for me to get up, go to the bathroom and grab a cookie, or a doughnut or ANYTHING for that matter. I almost convince myself it is okay, the calories wont count because it is in the middle of the night!!! I am now playing mind games with myself to make it seem ok!!! Now keep in mind I am doing just fine during the entire rest of the day..................
Does anyone one else have this issue, if so, how are you dealing with it?????

First of all... what is causing you to wake up in the middle of the night? You might want to go have a sleep study done to see the cause of these late-night wakings. Once you're able to sleep soundly through the night, grabbing food won't be an issue any longer.
Secondly, get those foods out of your house!!! If they aren't around to "grab", then there won't be that temptation.0 -
Keep lower cal foods within reach, and hide the higher cal stuff. In a sleep state, you're more likely to reach for whatever is closest. At least, I do. :laugh:0

I definitely have this problem. I suffer with insomnia and most times I can wake up and not be hungry. Other times, I wake up starving and think nothing of getting a snack such as a big bowl of cereal or my favorite..a pb&j sandwich, both easily over 300 calories. I've even had a turkey and cheese sandwich or a bowl of chips or cookies, and so forth.
That was before MFP. Now, when I wake up hungry I think twice about whether I should or should not eat something. I suffer through the hunger pains as long as I can and when I can't stand them anymore (if I haven't fallen back to sleep yet) I make sure I get a snack that is low cal like a nonfat greek yogurt, a cup of tea with a plain rice cake or something along those lines.
I don't know what makes me wake up hungry, especially when I've had a good dinner and was full prior to going to bed. It's truly frustrating and when I do eat in the middle of the night I log that snack for the next day, which causes me to have less calories for that day...the beginning of a vicious cycle that is affecting my weight loss, or lack thereof.
I know for me, the insomnia is caused by too much on the brain. So that's one issue I need to deal with. The other is reviewing my eating habits (with a professional) and tweaking them so that I'm getting the proper nutrition during the day to avoid the 2 a.m. hungry horrors.0 -
I used to do this when I was taking Ambien regularly….:explode: :grumble:
Thankfully, SO THANKFUL…I do not take that anymore!
As suggested, consider a Sleep Study at a local hospital.
Hope it works out! :flowerforyou:0 -
It's also possible that you are not eating enough during the day and/or missing nutrients your body is craving.
I have the same problem. Even though I don't feel hungry over the day or feel like I have eaten enough, I wake up in the middle of the night with cravings. Mostly for chocolate, bread, cereals (so carbs). Part of it may be emotional craving (if I binge I always crave carbs as well) but I also notice that when I eat more during the day, the night cravings disappear for a longer time.0
