Hi guys
I've started exercising and eating healthy over the last couple of weeks, the first two weeks went great and I lost 7lbs, this week I have been doing exactly the same exercise if not more and eating the same amount of food yet I seen to be slowly gaining the weight that I lost back, does anybody have any explanation for this? Am I doing something wrong?

Have you eaten more salt? Are you nearing your period? Are you constipated? There are a million reasons you can gain a few pounds here and there.
"Weight loss is not linear" you should be looking for a downward trend over time, not worry about day to day and week to week fluctuations.0 -
If you lost 7 lbs in the first week, you were doing something right. Yes, water weight loss. Yes, now you're adding back some of that water as your muscles try to repair from the new workouts. I'm saying, whatever it is you did the first week, why not give it a chance to work long term? You never know if it'll work long term if you don't give it a long-term chance.0

Oh I am 100% going to make it a long term thing! Was just thinking is it even worth doing the exercise if my weights just going to go right back up!? But that's just me being stupid and impatient I guess... And salt!? That can really make you gain weight? I have sooo much salt on everything!0

And I'm male so I pray to god I'm not nearing my period haha0

In the very beginning of my journey. I weighed 184. I started doing T25 so I was working out 5 days a week. I lost 4 lbs....then I'd gain back 5. This went on for literally like two months. I was taking progression pictures each month and I was seeing a physical difference in my body but the scale didn't reflect it. You might very well be toning up as well and gaining some muscle. Remember muscle burns fat. That is really when I started to lose weight was when I had started toning up some.0

Well, do you feel like answering some questions?
How much do you weigh? Age? Height? What's your BMR and TDEE? What's your workout routine?
If you answer these, people will give you better advice.0 -

Oh yes it can affect your weight in terms of water retention! For example, when I go for sushi, just the tablespoon or two of soya sauce I use can cause me to hold on to 2 or 3 lbs of water for the next day or two! Don't fret, your body rids itself in due time.
Also, keep in mind the difference in mass between a lb of fat and a lb of muscle. If you are losing fat, but building muscle, it stands to reason that your weight may not alter much - take measurements - they matter more
I went down 3 clothing sizes when I first started this journey, and although I had a "big" loss in the beginning, my overall lb loss was only 7 lbs, but the loss in inches was significant.
Keep at it, you got this0 -
Sorry it makes sense to tell you all the details, I weigh 87kgs, I'm 21, 6foot and go to the gym for roughly and hour 5 days a week doing strictly cardio...0

I see where some of you are coming from, I feel like my belly has gone down a lot recently which I've been happy about, maybe I'll stick to more of a visual weightloss rather than the scales! And from now on I'll cut down on the salt haha0

if you don't already start tracking sodium on your food diary, it's an eye opener, if you are having lots of salt drink plenty of water to flush it out, how often are you weighing yourself?0

I plugged your stats into this calculator http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/
and it says your BMR is about 1900 calories per day. Your BMR is the amount of energy your body needs to do its basic functions (heart beat, oxygen exchange, cell maintenance, etc.) So a lot of people would tell you that if you're eating less than that, your weight loss may not be predictable. How much are you eating every day?0 -
Okay so the more salt then the more water? I'm writing down my weight once a week but when there is scales there I always end up jumping on them so I do it daily0
-
I've worked out my average calorie intake is about 1200?0
-
i weigh myself daily too lol can't resist, but if you are logging your food and you do have a spike in your weight, you may be able to work out what has caused you to weigh more
1200 is most definitely not enough calories, i'm not far off your weight, i'm 5'7 and female and i'm currently on 1750 cals and losing between 1-2lbs a week, i know it really does sound weird and when we start dieting we think we have to really restrict to lose, but we don't, i hope you have at least been eating your exercise cals back0 -
You're not eating enough.
I'm not suggesting you start eating 1900 calories tomorrow. You have to ease into it. But seriously, you need to eat more. Eat at least your BMR. It'll be better for you in the long run.0 -
It's hard finding the right kinda foods to eat though when I'm always out and about!0

You're not eating enough.
