Really...? REALLY?!!

Exactly when did we become a society where someone who, by any measure, is doing the wrong thing, has the audacity to catch major attitude with someone who's doing the right thing?! Feel free to either comment on my story or share your own.

At my job, teleworking and alternative work schedules are highly encouraged if your job/manager supports it. Mine does so I work from home at least 3 days/week. For that privilege, I had to give up my assigned cube and have to reserve a teleworker cube (TWC). Every TWC has a sign on that that says, "Don't sit here unless you've reserved it!" and provides a link to the Intranet site where you reserve them. It's a quick process and can take less than a minute to do.
The system allows you to reserve up to a month in advance, and my reservations are always made AT LEAST a week in advance. I had a cube reserved from 9a-7p today, and made that reservation 3 weeks ago. I arrived a couple hours late this morning and someone was already there. No big, I just sat in the adjacent cube until they came back a few minutes later.
While waiting, I checked the system and verified that not only did I have a valid reservation, that the cube that I was squatting in was unreserved! In fact, more than 50% of the TWCs on this floor were unreserved!
When I heard her return, I went over and said politely, "Excuse me. I had this cube reserved for the day." She said "Oh, OK." and I walked away because I didn't want to hover over her while she packed up. As I sat back down, she yelled over the 6' cube wall, "Wait, where were you sitting?" I said, "I'm sitting in this next cube waiting."

Her: "Well, when did you get here?"
Me: "I just arrived a few minutes ago."
Her: "Well sometimes people reserve cubes but then don't show up. So I waited until 9am and sat here."
Me: "I have that cube reserved from 9a-7pm and I created that reservation weeks ago."
Her (with MAJOR attitude:angry: ): "Well NEXT time, what you need to do is change the arrival time if you're going to be late! I looked in the system and saw the reservation, so I waited until 9a and then I sat here! Next time you need to change the time! *huff*"
 :noway:
 At this point, I just bit my bottom lip and said to myself, "If this heifer says ONE MORE THING to me, I'm going 'Guns of Navarone" on her *kitten*!" :explode: If she went in the system and saw that this cube was reserved, she also had to see this adjacent cube and a couple of cubes within 10 sec walk distance were also unreserved! Unless she fell through the ceiling, she actually had to walk past at least one of those unreserved ones to get to this one! What she should have done was reserve one of those other cubes while she was in the system and neither of us would've been inconvenienced!
I could justify what she didn't if all of the TWCs were reserved. At that point, sure, if all are reserved and one isn't occupied hours later, squatter's rights! I wouldn't even have bothered her. But no, more than 50% of the TWCs on this floor were unreserved, and by her own admission she went into the system, saw that, and sat in one of the minority that was reserved!
Anyway, she didn't say anything else, so I peeped around the wall and saw that she vacated. Didn't even bother to tell me... whatevs...
Later, I noticed that she plopped herself in one of the unreserved cubes. I checked the system... she STILL didn't bother to put in a reservation!
That's more trifling than people who put grocery carts in the parking space right next to the cart return! Really?! You couldn't walk 3 extra feet to put it in the proper place?! Meh, that's a story for another day!

I have little patience for that. Last time someone took a desk I had reserved. I unplugged their computer and asked if they needed help packing up.

I got one better. Staple her to a cubbie she has no reservation for and then make a reservation for someone to be in that cubbie...it would be funny to see her try to get up fast and be stuck to the chair!!

So if there were other cubes available, why were the two of you fighting over this one? Was there somebody under the desk giving oral? Or is it simply the view of the squirrels that makes that cube so desirable?

I was thinking the same thing...

Are all of the TWCs essentially the same? If so, then why didn't you just go to an unoccupied one rather than kicking the girl out of "yours"?

I mean, I'm all for making a point, but sometimes it's not worth the hassle!

Sounds like you were totally in the right and she in the wrong. But, I have to ask.... Why couldn't you just sit in one of the unreserved for the day? LOL Was it just the point? Just curious. I, personally, am a total bi*ch and would have done exactly what you did just to make a point LOL

No prob. Yeah, I typed way too much, I admit it. I'll keep this reply short.
    1) There was no "fight". I told her I had a reservation and she moved after yammering on for 10 min.
    2) This cube has all of the equipment while others are missing stuff. That's why I reserve it weeks in advance.

    I concur. People SUCK.

I have a 3 day, 8 hour class going on in my training room. I went over to take out the trash and someone threw a full cup of coffee in the can with no liner. There were replacement liners in the bottom. Oh and the trash can is next to the sink where people usually dump liquids before putting them in the garbage.

Ohh wow. I agree with you. It doesnt matter that you could have gone to another un-reserved spot, you took the time to reserve it and she didnt. That is that. I would have tried to reserve all of them just to piss her off but that just me and the child in me.

Well... I can't imagine not being there by 9am if I reserved it for then BUT that said sounds like she gave you only until 9am to sit there and hey traffic, all kinds of things can happen to make a person run late... SINCE she looked, saw it was reserved and also was able to clearly see many that were not, she should have reserved one of those and moved over. I personally would not have wanted to get busy and then have to move if you showed up a few minutes later!

But few have common sense these days!

    ^^ This.

I would never, ever, EVER go back to work for a company where I had to sit in a windowless cubicle. *shudders*
