Help - how to estimate calories burned?

Hi all,
I've been reading on the forums here and it seems the consensus is that MFP overestimates calories burned from exercise if you use their calculator. So what is the best resource for estimating calories burned from cardio and various strength training (barbells, dumbbells, a few cables)? I don't have a HRM - I know that's ideal for calories burned from cardio but it's out of budget at the moment.
Thanks!
