If only some programmer would invent an app where I could input various types of workouts and it would give me general calories burned information. It would really be great if that app would also track my calories eaten.

    *sighs wistfully* Someday......

Don't forget that the most accurate measure of calories burned can only come from a HR monitor with a chest strap. I've generally found that all of the online calculators over-estimate by 50-150 calories, so keep that in mind when you do your calculations :)

Gosh, and if an app like that could help you with figuring out how much protein and carbs and fats you're eating too, well, that would really be something.

Maybe even a social component to help provide support and look for answers to fitness/diet/health/weight loss questions.

I guess we can all dream, huh?

Can you really get a good idea on workout video calories burned with an app? Wouldn't it depend enormously on just how hard you were working to keep up with the video? I just assumed it would be impossible to get an accurate read on something like that without some sort of heart rate monitor.

I know the sarcasm from the other posters hints that MFP does generate an "exercise burn estimate" but I don't think I have ever seen a workout video in the exercise section selection. Maybe I missed something.

Good luck with your search, but I think Id lean towards an HRM for accuracy's sake, unless you are just going for guesstimating calories burned. Then, good luck getting to your goal. :)

What if they mirrored this ability on a website too? Then you could track these things from either your phone or your computer.

I once thought it might be awesome if they added forums to it too (but only accessible from the website, not the app)...

...but now I'm not so sure.
