Heart rate monitors to tell how many cals burned?

I was wondering how accurate heart rate monitors are to tell how many calories burned through each cardio/lifting session if they are very accurate which on should i get?also i have trouble getting in my target heart rate zone its very hard to get to 160 beats per minutes witth out over exerting myself quickly what should i do about this?

For cardio, as long as your information in the heart rate monitor is correct, then yes. (if your using kind with chest strap)
For lifting, no. There is a direct relationship between heart rate and calories burned for cardio, that relationship isn't there for lifting.0
