I just found out my cholesterol is running kinda high, my dr wants to see if I can lower it by changing my diet before trying a medication. However I know nothing about this kind of stuff so any help would be appreciated. If you know of any cookbooks or websites that would be fantastic. Thanks so much, Tess:happy:

  • I've been following the South Beach plan for years to lower and keep my cholesterol down without medication.

It's been popular for several years now and is often recommended by doctors for their patients with high cholesterol. The main concept, as I understand it, is to eat low-glycemic foods, such as non-starchy vegetables, lean meats, poultry and fish, whole grains instead of highly processed foods, and use healthy oils, such as olive oil.

To get started and see if you're interested - Here's a great site for Kalyn's Kitchen, a cooking blog, that I use quite often:

Look at the left side of the homepage, and select the first few choices from the Recipe section. They list lots of recipes for the first phase of the South Beach Plan. Other sections of her site include lots more info about South Beach - very informative.
