How many days a week do you run/walk

I have just started running again and am curious how often everyone runs?
Before when I ran I went everyday. Granted the loop I ran is only a little over 2 miles.
Do you set your goals as your total weekly miles? Or do you just run daily some longer runs and some shorter runs?
I just don't want to over do it but only 3 days a week as some people say doesn't seem enough since I am only going 2-3 miles each day.

What do you think?

  • I'm trying to do 6 days a week walking 4.5 miles in a hour.
  • I just started walking / running, I was doing to C25K 3x's a week (stopped because of knees hurting) but now I am walking 6 to 7 days a week but I only go about 2miles a day. I agree with you, just doing it 3x's a week doesn't seem like much but then again it's better then not doing it at all. And I guess it depends on your fitness level and what you're able to do.
  • Building muscle (and that includes letting muscles rest) is really great for losing weight, since muscle speeds up your metabolism. When I started my weight loss regimen (about 6 months ago), I ran only 2 miles too. But now I run twice a week, but 5 miles each time. I recommend running two or three times a week, and to work on gradually building up the distance.

My trainer recommended 45-60 min of cardio at least twice a week for weight loss, so you should run less frequently, but do it for longer each time.

I agree.my distance has increase considerably since last month! Don't over work yourself if you are running it will just discourage you and make you want to quit.

I am aiming for 6X a week. I run 3 of those days and walk 3 of those days. Each day I hope to accomplish 3 miles but sometimes my responsibilities as a mom cut it down to 2. The 7th day of the week is my rest day. Right now that is Sat. just because with 3 kids playing soccer...I am on the soccer field all day long.
