Secret to losing weight

There really is no secret!

Consume fewer calories than your TDEE and you will lose weight over time (weight loss is not linear due to hydration levels, glycogen storage, etc).

If you believe this is not true then you are either:

1. Incorrectly measuring your caloric intake

and/or

2. Incorrectly calculating your TDEE

I am not promoting any specific type of diet, nor do I discount the benefit of exercise (I think exercise is very important for overall health). However for weight loss the answer is as simple as consume less than your TDEE.

There is no need to give up entire food groups to lose weight. In my opinion, continuing to eat the foods you already enjoy (in moderation) will be easier to sustain in the long run than strict adherence to an overly restrictive diet. Remember losing weight is only part of your goal. You also (should) want to maintain your ideal weight and a regular exercise program for the rest of your life!

Very true, I keep pointing out all the skinny & starving people around the world, but some posters are convinced lower calorie intake is not the answer and seek magic fix or mumbo jumbo, or sometimes just a shoulder to cry on & be assured it is not their fault that the fat fairy shovels doughnuts into them

What you said is true. But the best means of doing that isn't counting your calories.

Most people who are thin don't use a TDEE calculator to figure out how many calories they need. They just know, because they eat when they are physically hungry, and stop when they are no longer hungry. For most people, the calories this totals up to varies day by day depending on activity and other factors, but it all averages out to be sufficient to maintain a good & healthy weight.
