fresh veggies longer

hi i was wondering how you guys/gals keep your veggies fresh longer.... i usually try to do my grocery shopping all at one time at the beginning of the week but by then end of the week i have soft tomatos and peppers and black stuff all over my cauliflower and cabbage??? i keep them in the veggie drawer in my kitchen but any other ideas???

    That's odd....things like cauliflower and cabbage usually keep pretty well...definitely a week plus. What do you have your fridge set at? I wouldn't store tomatoes in the fridge either...those should be left in the open air.

    We tend to buy hardy veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage fresh and often we're good for a couple of weeks with those.

    my fridge is set at 5 and its not so much the cabbage but the cauliflower.... the cabbage is just the outter stuff that i peel off. And thanks for the advice on the tomatos cuz i have always kept them in the fridge.
  • I would check for excess moisture in your fridge (specifically where these veggies are kept). I don't keep my veggies in the veggie drawer specifically because I find 1) It's usually a bit warmer in there than the rest of the fridge and things don't keep as long, and 2) moisture can build up making it humid and encouraging spoilage scenarios. If you still want to use the crisper drawer, maybe a baking soda pack in there will help slightly? Plus some dry paper towels to line the drawer.
