"Rest days" Can I do a Group Power class?

I heavy lift on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. My friend does a Group Power class, which I love to do also, on Monday and Thursday, which are my rest days. If I do anything those days it is usually elliptical. Can I safely do the Group Power using low weights without negatively effecting my strength gains? My main goal is to lose fat without losing muscle, and eventually to gain muscle. If I keep up my high protein will the 2 hours a week Group Power increase my muscle loss or not allow my muscles to recover from heavy lift days? I will also try to be sure to eat back at least half of my calories burned from the Group Power. I just don't want to work so hard on heavy weights and have it all for nothing, but at the same time I would love to do this class with my friend. If it's either/or I would rather keep heavy lifting.

  • Hi There!

I do some form of weight training 4 days a week and cardio on 2 days. So 6 days I workout with a rest day which is usually yoga or stretching. If you do total body lifting on the 3 days you lift then you probably shouldn't do group power class. Im sure it targets the entire body. I would recommend that if you do want to join the class to do isolation exercises. For instance Wednesday is arms and back, Friday is Legs and Butt and Sunday is Abs and Chest. Your muscles need time to recover and sometimes 1 day isn't enough especially if you don't supplement. (Like a recovery drink) You need that cardio on off days. But doing a class if you lift Isolation style won't hurt! Hope this helps!

Hard to say. I've seen the same people in the gym for the last few years and it looks like a few of then took too many rest days, but seriously though, rest is important, get it where you can.
