Jogging for exercise

I'm just starting jogging with my dog, not very far at the moment, close to two miles, twice a day.
Does anyone else jog for exercise, is it any good for toning? Or do I need to be doing calisthenics or weights or similar?

Running increases your calorie burn and will therefore help you lose weight. Unless you are very out of shape and running hills you will not see much in the way of muscle build from running though. For that you need to strength train. Free weights are the most efficient but machines, a sandbag, or body weight exercises will also certainly get you there.

What do you mean by "toning"? I'm guessing working with weights/ strength training will give the best results in terms of appearance to your body.

Running is a good cardio workout, though. I have 2 dogs and do different types of run with each of them. How old is your dog, btw - they shouldnt be doing much running while they're still a pup.
  • No I'm in ok shape, and not really running hills, maybe some slight inclines and declines.
That's what I figured really, thank you!
