Getting flat or flatter abs

My stomach is my issue and always has been. I gain all my weight right in the mid-section and takes me forever to loose. So, I'm trying to refocus my energy and dedication once again in hopes that I loose 20 lbs. and feel and look better. I've read so many times that abs are made in the kitchen and not in the gym, so as long as I stick to my calories, eventually my stomach will shrink and I can start focusing on ab workouts or should I try and reduce the carbs - pasta, breads, rice, etc? I am getting back into my running program and have a 10k scheduled for next month, so will definately be exercising. But I never see the point in focusing on my abs as there is just too much fat there??

Your post is correct. Removing bodyfat naturally is a combination of the kitchen, calories and exercise (which speeds up the process). Stick to your calories, imo kill the carbs after 5pm and then be diligent for the long haul and you should see the results you are seeking. Good luck on your 10k. If that is what you enjoy, I would schedule them out in a manner that will keep you motivated and improving, that might be 2/year it might be 1/month.

Calorie deficit is the ONLY requirement for getting a flat stomach. You don't have to cut carbs, or eat certain foods at certain times of the day, or any other of that silly nonsense. You don't have to focus on ab exercises, either. Exercise is great for phyiscal fitness, but for weight loss, all you need to do is eat less calories than you burn.

You can't spot reduce fat, you reduce fat from all over your body based on genetics.

Tiredmom - remember, every post will have a different method and opinion on what works and they are all valid. The only way for you to determine what works for your body is to incorporate changes you can track and then see how your body responds. While no carbs at night and certain foods at certain times may be silly nonsense to some, it may in fact work for others.
