Needing a swift kick in the behind

Thanks to MFP, I went down to 221lbs from 240lbs. Took 2 years to do it, but it's progress. But lately I've bounced around from 226lbs to 232lbs. I could really use some tough love. I'm going back to the studio tomorrow (haven't worked out in 3 weeks due to family issues, and stress).

Workouts:
YouTube
iTouch 5
Wii
PS3 slim
Studio membership 4x a week (roughly)

I know it is not what you want to hear, but your diary shows a pattern that is not going to work. Eating small amounts of junk food throughout the day, this is just not sustainable. Especially if you have been here for long, and in a total of 2 years you lost a total of 8 pounds, you know this is not working. It does not matter if you will starve yourself for a while, or hit the gym more often, you need deeper changes than this. If you cannot figure it out by yourself and you have been trying for that long, maybe it is time to talk to a nutritionist. Yes, on a short term, calories matter, but on the long run, getting to your calorie goal on cookies and chips, no, it is not helping, and you have proof for this by now. Looking at random at some of your pages, there is no balance, almost no real food. You need a lifestyle change, and you are too young to continue this way, your health will soon start seriously suffering. I see the same pattern even in your entries from last year or older. Logging on MFP is not enough to lose weight or to get healthy.

    I've lost almost 20lbs. NOT 8.

You claim you're hovering at 232-226 ... or down 8-14 pounds from your weight two years ago. Spot checking your diaries reveals that protein is lacking from your diet on most days.

I also question your calorie burns from past Zumba workouts. Every one is at the max end of any calculator's numbers.

For success, you need to sit down and think through your meals and get realistic with your exercise goals and logging.

My Zumba class isn't normal. We're also doing lunges, burpees, mountain climbers etc which are incorporated into the routines.

ETA: Also if anyone suggests I get an HRM, I'm waiting until the Amiigo is FINALLY released.

Are you claiming that you are at the top end of caloric burn for your classes? That you're in that kind of shape to keep going for an hour plus?

You seem to be actively avoiding the comments about your intake as well. OVER 100 GRAM DAILY PROTEIN DEFICITS ARE COMMON IN YOUR DIARY. Insisting you've lost "almost 20lbs" after stating you're in the 8-14 pound range ... ignoring the glaring issues with your intake ... coupling that with what looks like overestimating your burns.

Congratulations on losing the 8-14 pounds. Until you stop ignoring your habits and get serious, no comments here are going to help. The only one who can give you the swift kick you need is you so either take the observations to heart or continue wallowing.

Can you be more clear about what you think the problems are? Right now, you're inviting pretty much open critique. Do you want tough love on motivation, tracking, macros, overestimating burns, logging, honesty with self?

You obviously aren't willing to accept the kick in the *kitten* you so desperately need. In the words of Strother Martin in Cool Hand Luke "Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it... well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men." Change the gender and it applies to your situation.

While you lie to yourself about what you've done and ignore the observations on your diet ... I'll move on. Good luck, you're going to need it.

I took a look at your diary and you don't log consistently or well.

Food scales are important. For example 1c of cereal does not equal 110 calories per the box...it's more like 3/4 of a cup and how do I know that...I weigh mine. 2 servings of fruit loops @ 110 calories a serving in a 2cup ziplock container (which holds 2 cups) is not full...it's about 1 2/3 of a cup.

I suspect you are eating more than you think.

I am not gonna bash the "junk food" I do it myself but I weigh it all out.

Weight loss is about a calorie deficet and you get that from your diet...if you are eating more than you think and over esitmating burns it's a double whammy.

If you aren't losing weight you are not in a deficet...and if you are hovering at the weight you indicated you are at a surplus.

consistently and well means weighing your food...that is the key...knowing what you are eating. (I always go back further than 2 weeks and periodically look at random days)

It is also about looking at the entries you use. IE peanut butter sandwich...2 slices of bread is about 180 calories and 1 serviing of peanut butter is 90 calories...so that is 270 calories not the 220 in your diary...

Thanks to MFP, I went down to 221lbs from 240lbs. Took 2 years to do it, but it's progress. But lately I've bounced around from 226lbs to 232lbs. I could really use some tough love.

    You did ask for it.

Losing nineteen pounds in two years is embarrassing; your 'progress' is crap. A brief look at random diary entries shows me three things:
    * a lot of highly processed meals
    * inconsistency in logging
    * too much sodium

Frankly, I don't think you're logging consistently enough, actually measuring your food, and I don't believe you're logging everything.

You do not sound like you are currently receptive to the tough love/good advice. You have an excuse for everything. If your father just died 2 weeks ago then maybe you are not currently able to deal with your diet issues and should revisit them after you have had some time with the loss of your father.

This thread is a train wreck. You're asking for people to give you advice, show you some 'tough love', and basically help you see your weaknesses and how to improve- yet, you have an excuse for everything. Why not take what life has handed to you and make something positive out of it. Take advice from these people, they're only giving you exactly what you asked for. You need to stop and look past all the excuses and just go. No one else is going to do it for you and the only person who gets hurt if you don't change is you.

Your excuses are bullcrap. I started my journey at 302 lbs and I've lost 13 lbs. I've lost more weight in the month and a half I've been here over the 2 years you have. You want some tough love? Eat smart, exercise and DON'T give excuses. Give this a read. http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/9-ways-to-deal-with-hunger-on-a-diet.html Suck it up, or stay fat.

...Well. I've actually got nothing. It's all been said.

    Log consistently
    Weigh your food
Really think about the workouts you're logging; maybe for now only eat back 30-50% of the calories burned and see how that goes
When you start a thread disclose any medical conditions from the get go and not after you decide you don't like the advice.
    Keep pushing.

FIRST you had my curiosity. NOW you have my attention.

But seriously op you got what you asked for and its true. Do some soul searching and decide if you really want to do this or not. Mourn your dad, learn to lose weight at a good rate despite your medical condition, and come read all this again. Right now you sound like a lady riding around in her rascal scooter telling the doctor about how it's all genetics.
