Unless you managed to eat over by 10,500 calories, you didn't actually gain 3 pounds.
Our body weight fluctuates a lot, as much as five pounds in a day. If you insist on weighing yourself every day, be sure that you do it at the same time every day, and expect to see fluctuations.
Here's a good article that explains the fluctuation more in-depth.

I feel your pain! I have been exercising up a storm for 4 months now and the scale is not moving. I also have been trying to "cut down" on what I eat Since I came to this site and am really watching my calories I see even though I am cutting down it is not enough My calorie target for the day is like 1300 and I am always up to 1600 or more and today since I went out to eat it was 2200!!!!! I am so disgusted!
But back to you I think it is water retention or excuse me but have you had a bowel movement today. Believe it or not that weighs! Take a deep breathe and keep going! Focus on the positive and weigh yourself tomorrow or better yet at the end of the week.0 -

NO! It would be nearly impossible to gain that in a few days, unless you overate by 10,500 calories, there are 3500 calories in a pound.0 -

pmd, i was doing like you are, and i came to find out i was eatin to few calories... i was eatin 1245 thinkin it would help me lose weight quicker but my body needed more nutrients n stuff... i think you might want to up ya calories.. since i've uped mine already i'm noticing a difference...
and natashav, its water weight not fat... theres no way you gain 3lbs of fat... not if you are watching what you eat.. and a side note, this shouldn't be a diet for you... diets you stop and go back on at a later time.. if you really want to keep this weight off, this should be a lifestyle change...
these are all things i had to learn, cause i was on this same "diet" last yr and gained back 15lbs once i stopped... i had to realize, this has to be a change in my life.. i'm never ever in this life going to diet again..0 -
i know exactly what you guys mean! but DONT WORRY! unless you are secretly binge eating cheese cake and what not, you didn't gain it back. here are some reasons why this could show you "gained" weight... Either you are weighing at a different time or clothing weight is different, muscle weighs a lot more than fat, WATER weight is a bigger - when we start eating healthier we drink a lot! i look at the scale after working out and drinking about 3 water bottles and see i gained weight... So SERIOUSLY! give it time. you didn't gain it back in fat weight if you are honestly working out and eating healthy!0

Don't weigh yourself more than once a week! You will drive yourself crazy, the scale will be up and down.
Once a week! I know it is hard....0 -
O.K., maybe too much information, but check if you are getting ready to start. I gain about 5-7lbs of water, etc right before I start without fail and two days after I stop I am down it and then some. Depending upon where you live, if there has been a weird weather change, it can contribute. When the weather warms up I always have a couple of days of xtra fluid for whatever reason. I just drink a little more and sweat a little more and it evens out again.0
