Does any one have any help or tips on eating your favorite treats in moderation? I have been dieting and losing weight over the last 2 years and have generally been quite succesful but i usually completely cut out the treats while on the diet. Once off the diet i eat the treats again and while i dont put on weight i cant lose it either.
I think my problem is i cant have just one bit of chocolate or just one pack of crisps i always want 3 chocolate bars etc. Anyone got any good ways on how to moderate so i can still have a sweet and not ruin a diet?
If not i fear i am doomed to dieting 2-3weeks at a time with no treats and then goin a couple months with no weight loss and before i can build up the will power to diet with no treats again.
I know i'm prob asking for too much and the likely answer is will power but help.... please....

Pre bag portions and put the rest out of reach, so there's less temptation. Try to only buy enough to portion, so you're not tempted to have more, until you are able to avoid. Also, make sure you're getting enough protein and fats to feel satisfied, so you're less likely to have the urge to binge.0

The trick is finding what works for you. For me, I really like the Lindt Sea Salt Dark Chocolate Bars. A whole bar is like 2-1/2 servings, so I just break off the 4 squares that is one serving, close up the rest and put it back in the fridge. I take my time eating it, and make sure I pay attention to the taste of it, and really enjoy it. When it's gone, if I do think about what's left in the fridge, it's to tell myself that I will get to have another treat the next day.
When you have a treat, whether it's one cookie or a whole package, eventually you come to the end of it. You get to decide at the beginning of the eating how you'll feel when you come to the end of it.
I find it's much more enjoyable to take the time to savor each bite of a small amount of a treat, away from distractions like TV, rather than just mindlessly eat while distracted.0 -
Don't keep the treats in the store cupboard - if you want a treat make sure first that you can 'afford' the calories and then walk to a shop to buy it. If they're in the cupboard I find it too tempting to steal them when I haven't earned them. That's my method.0

Agreed with the other posters who said don't stock up on multiple portions of these foods. You know you struggle with eating just 1 chocolate bar, so don't keep more than 1 chocolate bar in the cupboard. When you go to the grocery, buy 1 at most (and don't buy the king size) and save it for a treat. If you start buying the foods you know you struggle with in bulk, you're setting yourself up for problems in my opinion.0 -

yep, this is what I was going to say as well. also there is the choice at the store to not buy three bars at a time. if you make it harder on yourself to get in the car, go to the store just to buy a chocolate then you probably wont end up doing it. you can always just eat what is planned and slowly savor each bite. when done, get up and go brush your teeth. you wont want anymore after that. toothpaste goes horrible with chocolate. lol I plan to eat what I like but make sure I completely enjoy it. when I am done. I just wash out my palette with a good drink or gum or brushing my teeth. it helps me even when I want more. a moment on your lips goes straight to your hips is what I think to myself.0 -

yes, great idea. make yourself walk to the store when you want one. I do that sometimes when I really want a diet rootbeer. or a cheese stick from the gas station. I like to think of it as earning my treats0 -
Another tip might be to make sure you're not "starving yourself." If you're never "starving" then you're much less likely to binge. When I hear someone say they only last on their planned diet for 2-3 weeks before falling off, it sounds to me like their daily calorie goals might not be high enough for their hormonal/emotional needs.0

I'm a fan of single serving mug-cakes and things like that.
That way, if I'm craving a dessert, I have to have all the ingredients, the time to prepare it and wait for it to cook.
I can't just snack out of convenience.
I love websites like chocolatecoveredkatie.com, foodiefiasco.com, dessertswithbenefits.com for these recipes.0 -
Thanks very much,
I think i'll try the brushing teeth method, as unfortunatley i have a partner that likes sweet things too and doesnt struggle with weight so he probably wouldnt be too impressed if we stopped buying for the cupboard.
I heard someone that used to freeze there chocolate so when they did want some they had to wait for it to defrost.
Will definitley take a look at my calorie intake again and make sure i'm getting enough filling foods so i dont binge out of hunger.0 -
I don't keep a stash of my favorite fat snacks when I want something I have to go to the store and get it. Then to keep myself from eating it all, I will have a serving and give the rest to my husband or my daughter. My husband is a junk food junkie but his favs differ from the foods I'm weak to, so it doesn't bother me much to have his junk food in the pantry.0
