Question about choosing your calorie intake

I read a post here that sometimes people have poor metabolisms because of poor eating habits. Therefore, it takes time for their body to adapt to an increased (maintenance level) calorie intake to function normally. Eventually though, in the long run, this will lead to better weight loss when you decide to cut back.
My question is: Do people start on this website at a maintenance level for a couple weeks to adapt, especially if they have no idea where their metabolism may stand. Or do they just choose whatever suits them best? Does it matter? Opinions?

You're over thinking it. Just start tracking and you'll know what you want to do. I'd imagine most people on here are trying to lose so they dive into it right away.0
