Using the nutritional guides on MFP has been really helpful to me. Do you have the mobile app? On the app, you can see all of the nutrients you've consumed at a glance, next to the goal for the day. I don't know why they don't do that online. Anyway, that could tell you what your diet might be lacking. How much protein are you eating now?
About junk food---I don't keep it in the house, because it's too much of a temptation. Instead, I stock up every week on healthy food that I really do like. If I have a lot of good options at home, I don't mind staying within my calorie limit. And, after a couple of weeks of healthy eating, I generally stop wanting the junk. Also, once/week I take a high fat day and let myself have real cheese or whatever I've been craving.0 -
At the risk of stating the obvious, are you eating enough calories? When I was losing weight, I started off on too low a calorie goal and was exhausted all the time. Raising my calories by just 150 a day really helped my energy levels. That's the first thing I would look at.
Secondly, are you getting enough sleep? Again, kind of obvious but something a lot of people overlook. I certainly need more sleep since I started exercising more.
With food, a lot of it comes down to experimenting and finding what works for you. Play about with your meal times and sizes a bit. Some people find they need to eat small meals regularly, to keep them going. Others do better on 3 meals and no snacks, or even just one big meal a day. It also depends on whether you have any particular medical issues like diabetes, PCOS, thyroid problems etc.
Protein helps keep you fuller. Fibre too. I personally haven't noticed protein having an effect on my energy levels, but for me, if I don't get enough carbs, my energy dips a bit. Other people who have certain medical conditions might find that they don't respond so well to carbs. In general, just make sure you're getting a wide enough range of foods that you're getting all the nutrients you need. Personally, I don't avoid "junk" food (however you define that) but I do make an effort to eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts, meat, pulses etc and have a good balance.
Tiredness can be a symptom of so many different things, if it's an ongoing problem, and you've ruled out not getting enough calories/sleep, then it would definitely be worth checking it out with the doctor. It could be a vitamin or mineral deficiency (anemia for example) or really, any number of other things.0 -

Many times when I am tired it is not food that I need. Try drinking a glass of very cold water or just standing up and moving around a little. It usually does the trick for me.0
