Requiring Protein Powder Advice

I am contemplating using protein powder due to my increase in exercise and weight training as a way to help muscle recovery and basically looking for any advice people can provide regarding its use.

A little bit of information:

6 times a week I weight lift for approximately 45 minutes at a time (with 10 - 15 mins cardio as a warm-up)
2 times a week I attend body combat classes for 60 minute sessions (high intensity)
Once a week I train in Tang soo Do for 90 mins (moderate intensity)
Once a week I train/teach Kenpo for 150 mins (not very strenous as I am the instructor)
Once a week I train in Kick boxing for 60 mins (high intensity)

I am looking to keep the muscle I have developed and I am not that worried about building bigger muscle, so this is more for recovery and maintenance and I am also diabetic (T2) so obviously the sugar content is an issue as is the possible effect using the powder could have on my kidneys.

Basically, would using protein powders be beneficial to me (I aim to use it once in the morning as a breakfast replacement, then once after training each day)?

Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can provide. :)

http://www.myprotein.com/home.dept has a range of protein several of which are low carbohydrate so won't bother your blood sugar.

Sounds to me like you would be better off with an MRP (meal replacement shake) that has a protein matrix instead of just whey, or the miriad of isolates they like to put in them today. I will give you 2 recommendations as I really do believe in these 2 products.

#1 MTS nutrition Macrolution mrp $36 for 30 servings @ 195 calories in water 6g's fat 8g's carbs 21g's protein in 1 scoop it also provides the equivalent of 10 servings of veggies and fruits, and uses Fibersol, sunflower oil etc.. Very high quality at low price. And check this out 1 gram of sugar.

#2 CNP Professional just visit their site and read about it. Very high quality protein, so high you can see the crystalized peptides.

    #3 Beverly nutrition MRP.

these are the best of the best to the best of my knowledge. I would try Mts as the owner and formulator is a very honest and good business man. These are not MLM products and I have no affiliation with these companies.

I have used whey isolate from myprotein.co.uk for the last 5 weeks and it's brilliant. I lift 3 times a week, as well do kettlercise and body pump classes every week (which are demanding on the muscles!). I take whey isolate after each workout and have very minimal muscle ache. Would highly recommend the products from myprotein.co.uk.

They also have great service (usually next day delivery, despite paying the minimum £1.99 for standard delivery) and all products are very reasonably priced. I know I sound like I work for them but I can assure you I don't - just a happy customer :drinker:

Many thanks for the quick advice, very much apprecaited.

Just found out there is a store near my gym that purely sells sports supplements, so I am going to pop and see them tonight and see what they recommend, but thinking that which ever one I settle for out of a MRP or Whey protein powder there is obvious benefits to be had.

    Thanks again :)
