Hi MFP!
For those of you who have~10lbs-15lbs left in your journey… have you moved your calories up closer to maintenance?
How did your calorie profession go?
I ate about 1300 at the beginning.. moved up to 1500,now at 1600..
When i moved to 1600 is when I started losing more weight after a plateau.
I do not want to gain any of my weight back but I know I will eventually ( sooner than later) be moving to maintenance. Right now i am not losing any more weight, but i am also not eating like I should right now…so i am going to try to eat like I should and see how it goes. 1600 calls per day CANT be maintenance can it?
How did you make the transition?

Popping in because I also am curious for answers. I get nervous to up my calories. I've lost 10 (well 9 but I fluctuate) and I only want to lose about 10 more. I am starting to lift more weights so I know I should be eating more calories...especially protein.
But like you said it isn't an easy transition.
Hopefully people share their experience :-D0 -
I maintain on way less than 1,600 calories—but I'm 5'2".
It takes trial & error to find the number of calories at which your weight stabilizes. The closer you are to goal, the more slowly you lose. Set your goal to .5 lb. per week, and be patient.

Why can't 1600 cals per day be maintenance?
Lots of people, particularly sedentary, older individuals are on below 1600 per day as their maintenance cals.
If you cannot live on 1600 cals a day, you can either exercise more to burn more or you can weigh more so that a higher weight is maintained at a higher cal intake.
Anyhow, you need to find out what your maintenance cals is first of all and play around so that you reach the ideal cal in = cal out.0 -
I have less than 10lbs til my goal weight and have increased my calories more towards maintenance over the last couple weeks, was eating 1400, now eating 1600. My weight hadn't moved in a while and even though I was eating good foods I was still feeling hungry, and a little sluggish in my workouts, so I kind of just listened to my body. The last couple weeks I feel like I have more energy and my pants are fitting a little looser so I'm going to stay here for a while.0
