Dark chocolate is still full of sugar, but if you're only having one or two squares a day then you're fine. That being said, you don't need permission to eat chocolate. Just make sure all your macros are good, and have fun.

Yes, but dark chocolate contains natural ingredients that benefit the body (70% cocoa and up are better for you), unlike other chocolates.

What I forgot to include ^^^ the higher the cocoa solid percentage the better. Lindt makes an awesome 99.9% dark chocolate that's amazing. Having two squares of that is infinitely better for you than two squares of white chocolate.

My husband brought home some Lindt 90% once. I couldn't eat it; far too bitter. Maybe I'll adjust to it over time though, haha.

If it's too bitter then the trick is to do other stuff with it - for a treat you could dip strawberries in it or something. I know of people who melt it, mix in stevia then shove it in the freezer, but I've never tried that. Or just eat the chocolate you like smaller doses - a little chocolate never killed anyone!

If I eat chocolate, I eat whatever kind I want (milk chocolate only please). I just make it fit with the rest of my calories for the day.

Apologies if this question has been asked previously, I was unable to find it. I have recently rediscovered how much I love chocolate. Thankfully I am the type to have 1-2 pieces and quit! I assume DARK chocolate is allowed on most diets, and I don't mind dark chocolate, but how dark? If I'm going to have my occasional piece or two, what type of guidelines should I be using for choosing and Eating?

I aim for at least 70% cocoa.

eat what you want in moderation. I personally struggle with moderation and have to go cold turkey. If you can do it enjoy :D

I adore chocolate! Chocolate is definitely a part of my new lifestyle.

That said, I find I lack sufficient self control with standard milk chocolate, like a snickers bar. That would have to be a very rare treat for me and I'd probably tell my husband to hide the bag lol.

But, I can moderate the extremely dark 86% cacao chocolate and not suffer unbearable cravings.

You have to know yourself and your temptations. Do whatever works best for you.
